The Hokies are hoping for a repeat of their first meeting this season with the Demon Deacons that ended with Tech pounding their guests 94-65 back on January 15.

It would be a much welcome win for a VT squad that has gone 2-2 in its last four. After their win over Maryland, the Hokies took a tumble while setting a season low in scoring in Charlottesville on Saturday, losing to the Cavaliers, 61-54, in ACC play. Tech has now been swept in regular season games with the Cavaliers, having lost to them earlier, 57-54.

Virginia added a game-high 33 points in threes as Virginia Tech struggled to stop them.

Leading scorer Malcolm Delaney was the lone scoring bright spot against the Cavs with 22 points, 18 of that coming from three-point range. Jeff Allen helped out with a game-high 15 rebounds.

The loss against Virginia has stalled Tech’s march to the top of the ACC, two games behind Florida State who routed Wake Forest 84-66 to maintain their hold on third spot.

That loss was Wake Forest’s sixth straight as the team continues its struggles against ACC opponents, winning just one of their 11 conference tilts. Their lone win coming against Virginia.

The Seminoles shot a middling 44 percent, but their defense was the big factor, limiting the Demon Deacons to just 32 percent from it on home floor.  A big issue for Wake Forest was their 17 percent three-point shooting. This came in way below their season average of 37.

Travis McKie, who has led the team in scoring 11 times and in rebounding 18 times in 27 games this season, accounted for 30 percent of the team’s points, scoring 20 points on in 36 minutes on the hardwood.

Last year the Hokies got an 87-83 victory against the Demon Deacons. In four years, Virginia Tech’s record against Wake Forest is 6-1, and 1-1 at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

CBB Betting Trends:

WFRST are 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games overall.
WFRST are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Tue. games.
WFRST are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.

Matt’s Free Pick: Virginia Tech– Considering both teams lost to Virginia, I am expecting an exciting game. Virginia Tech, with a road record of 6-6, will challenge any home court advantage Wake Forest may have at 7-10 at home. They Hokies should win this one SU as the Deacons are not likely to get anymore from McKie who will be a lone star in this bout.
