Oral Roberts Golden Eagles vs. #12 Missouri Tigers Preview

Missouri (8-1) has won 3 straight games and they have only lost one game at home all season and that was to a ranked Georgetown team in OT. Oral Roberts (4-5) is coming off a loss, but they have got off to a good start being 2-0 in the Summit Conference. At time of writing the line for this game is not posted, but you can be sure the Tigers will be heavy favorites in this non-conference match up.

In their last games Missouri beat Presbyterian 70-55 while Oral Roberts lost to Oklahoma 73-60. The Golden Eagles were underdogs by 10 points in the OU game so they did not cover the spread while there was no line for the Mizzou game. This season Oral Roberts is 5-4 ATS and while Missouri is the 12th ranked team in the nation and only have one loss they are only 1-5 ATS.

Last season Oral Roberts played a great game in a big home upset win over Missouri, but they play Mizzou in their house tonight where the Tigers have won 52 straight games against non-conference teams. They have not lost a non-conference game at the Mizzou arena since the 2005 season.

The Tigers will be a little shorthanded in this game, as G Michael Dixon (10.7 ppg 4.3 assists per game) was suspended for tonight’s contest because he violated team rules.

The Golden Eagles may have to win this game with their defense since their offense only ranks 160th in the nation, but that may be hard to do since their D only ranks 232nd in the nation in opponents’ points allowed. In their loss to Oklahoma the Golden Eagles allowed the Sooners to shoot 50.9% from the field and 50% (7/14) from beyond the 3-point arc.

While the Golden Eagles shot well from downtown in the OU game hitting on 42.9% of their 3-point bombs they only shot 36% from the field and they were out-rebounded by 10 boards (32 to 22). ORU must get a better game from leading scorer Dominique Morrison (17.3 ppg), who was only 4/15 from the field for 11 points in the loss to Oklahoma. He has had to carry more of the offensive load since last year’s 2nd leading scorer Michael Craion is recovering from an injury and he has only played 17 minutes in his last 2 games.

G Marcus Denmon (16.4 ppg), who is the Tigers’ leading scorer, and the F duo of Ricardo Ratliffe (11.9 ppg 7.8 rpg) and Laurence Bowers (10.4 ppg 6.2 rpg) give Mizzou a solid hi-low game, but where the Tigers are strong is ball movement since they rank 15th in the nation in assists per game. However, the suspended Dixon leads the team in dimes and he may be missed tonight. Denmon is hitting on over 50% of his 3-pointers this season and the Golden Eagles cannot give him open looks from deep tonight.

Oral Roberts F Steven Roundtree (7 rpg) and F/C Damen Bell-Holter (6.1 rpg) must man the boards tonight and not allow the Tigers to dominate the glass. They really have to keep Ratliffe and Bowers from getting to the offensive glass and each is averaging around 3 offensive boards per game.

Mizzou is a much more athletic team that likes to get out and run and for Oral Roberts to have any chance to win their will have to shoot the rock well and slow the pace of the game.

The Tigers are a much better team and they will not allow the Golden Eagles to keep up with them in this game. Mizzou will dominate the glass and run up the score, as they will easily win this game.

Betting Trends

Oral Roberts is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, and has an Over record of 6-1 in their last 7 non-conference games.
Missouri is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games against teams with a losing road record, and has an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.

Pick: Missouri
