Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Florida Gators Preview

Tonight in the Sunshine State between a couple of ranked SEC teams where the loser will stay in the top 25 while the loser will likely not the 23rd ranked Florida Gators (16-5) host the 24th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores (15-5)

Both teams played and lost on Saturday with the Gators losing to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 71-64 and the Commodores falling to the Arkansas Razorbacks 89-78.

Florida is still in first place in the SEC East at 5-2 with Vandy in 3rd place in the East at 3-3. Both teams had their 3 game losing streaks snapped with their last loss.

Vanderbilt has been a mediocre betting team on the season going 8-7-1 ATS while Florida has not been a very good betting team at 7-10 ATS.

The Commodores had been playing solid defense in their 3-game winning streak, but they allowed Arkansas to shoot over 57% from the field in their last loss. They have to play good D, as they have only allowed 2 teams all season to shoot above 50.5% and they have lost both games.

Florida has to contain Vandy G John Jenkins (19.1 ppg), who has been hot and has averaged 21.8 ppg in SEC play. The Commodores rank 21st in the nation in scoring and they have 4 players that are averaging in double figures.

5’8” speedy G Erving Walker (14.4 ppg) is the leading scorer for the Gators and Vandy has to keep him from penetrating and scoring and dishing out a ton of assists. He and G Kenny Boynton (13 ppg) lead a solid backcourt and these guys need to shoot well tonight. 6’10” C Vernon Macklin (11.3 ppg 6.3 rpg) and F Chandler Parsons (10.3 ppg 7.3 rpg) form a solid frontcourt and they will be counted on to score and play solid D.

Macklin’s match up with 6’11 Vandy C Festus Ezeli (13 ppg 6.2 rpg) is key tonight and the big guy who can have the better game gives their team a better chance to win.

These teams match up pretty well against each other, but Florida is at home and will want to exact some revenge on Vandy, who beat them in their house last season. Florida will play good D and that will be the key, as they will win this game and cover the 3.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Florida is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and Vanderbilt is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games.
