Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Georgia Bulldogs Preview

In a big Wednesday night SEC match up, especially for the home team, the Georgia Bulldogs (17-7) host the 18th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores (18-6). NCAAB lines have Georgia as 2.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 141.5.

In their last games both teams played on Saturday with Georgia beating South Carolina 60-56 and Vandy upsetting, then, 18th ranked Kentucky 81-77.

This season Vanderbilt is 11-8-1 ATS and Georgia is 9-11 ATS. The underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 games between these SEC rivals.

Both teams are playing well as of late, as Vandy has won 3 straight and Georgia has won 3 of their last 4 games. The Bulldogs are only 1-3 in their 4 games against ranked teams this season and they could really use a win in this game facing a ranked Commodores team, as it would help Georgia get off the Big Dance bubble.

The Bulldogs have to try to slow down SEC leading scorer John Jenkins (19.8 ppg), who scored 32 points in the upset win over Kentucky and in that game he drained 6 3-pointers. He is the key player Georgia has to worry about, as in the Bulldogs 14 point win over the Commodores last season Jenkins was 0/9 from the floor and 0/7 from downtown.

The inside-outside duo of F Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie has combined to average 30.8 ppg and 14.6 rpg. However, these guys need to shoot the rock well and they will need some help from the other players. In Georgia’s 7 point loss to Vanderbilt in mid January Thompkins and Leslie combined for 34 points and 26 rebounds, but Georgia only shot 34.7% from the field and they only took 11 foul shots the whole game.

The Commodores have a much better offense and have 4 players averaging in double figures. However, the Bulldogs are better on the boards. Still, the Bulldogs lost their last home game and Vandy will score and Jenkins will have another big game, as the Commodores will score a minor upset and win tonight.

Betting Trends

Vanderbilt is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog and Georgia is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games as a home favorite.

Pick: Vanderbilt +2.5
