Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers Preview
In the Land of 10,000 Lakes on Sunday afternoon the 19th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers (16-6) host the #1 team in the nation in the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes (23-0).
In their last games Ohio State beat Michigan 62-53 on Thursday night while Minnesota lost to Indiana 60-57 on Wednesday night.
In the first meeting between these teams on January 9th at Ohio State the Buckeyes pulled out a narrow 67-64 win.
Both teams have been mediocre betting teams this season with Minnesota at 10-12 and Ohio State at 10-10. In the last 8 games between these 2 teams the home team has covered the spread 7 times.
The Golden Gophers have lost 2 straight games and in their last game they only shot 37% from the floor. They will have a hard time bouncing back in this game facing a Ohio State defense that ranks 7th in the nation in opponents’ points per game.
Ohio State lost last season’s Big 12 Player of the Year Evan Turner to the NBA draft, but it looks like they will have a repeat winner of the award in freshman stud F Jared Sullinger (18 ppg 10.1 rpg). He will get his points, but for the Gophers to pull off the upset they will have to keep him off the boards. He is the only OSU player averaging over 4 rpg. He only had 15 points in the earlier win over Minnesota, but he grabbed 12 rebounds including 4 offensive rebounds.
Minnesota must get good scoring games from G Blake Hoffarber (14.1 ppg) and F Trevor Mbakwe (13.3 ppg (10.5 rpg). Mbakwe has a tall task in this game, as he not only has to score, but he will be counted on to hit the glass.
Ohio State has a great defense, a great F in Sullinger, and a backcourt with 3 players averaging in double figures. They will be too much for Minnesota to handle tonight, as they will win this game, cover the spread, and stay undefeated.
Betting Trends
Minnesota is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games and OSU is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games.
