Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers Preview

In a HUGE Big 10 match up on Sunday afternoon the 12th ranked Purdue Boilermakers (21-5) host the 3rd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (25-1).

The Buckeyes have a 2 game lead over Purdue in the Big 10 standings and if they can win this game they will likely win the conference title. However, that will not be easy against a Purdue team that has not lost at home this season and has won 3 straight.

In their last games Ohio State beat Michigan State 71-61 on Tuesday night and Purdue beat a ranked Wisconsin team 70-62 on Wednesday night.

These 2 teams met on January 25th at Purdue and the Buckeyes laid a 87-64 beat down on the Boilermakers.

Even though Ohio State is the 3rd ranked team in the nation they are not a good betting team so far at 11-12 ATS on the season while Purdue is a legit 15-8 ATS. This underdog is 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these 2 teams.

This game features 2 players that are Player of the Year contention in Ohio State’s F Jared Sullinger (17.8 ppg 10 rpg) and Purdue’s F/C JaJuan Johnson (20.7 ppg 7.8 rpg) and the winner of this individual match may determine the outcome of the game.

Ohio State has the advantage on defense, as they rank 8th in the nation in opponents’ points per game while Purdue is also solid on D ranking 21st. The Boilermakers must play good defense in this game against a Buckeyes’ squad that ranks 3rd in the nation in field goal percentage. They must play better defense than they did in the earlier meeting when they allowed the Buckeyes to shoot over 55% from the field and in that game 6 Ohio State players scored in double figures.

One key player for Purdue is G E’Twaun Moore (17.9 ppg), who is shooting over 40% from 3-point land and he will need to hit the outside J tonight so the Buckeyes don’t pack the lane to stop Johnson. In the game in January against Ohio State he struggled only shooting 4/13 from the field and 1/3 from beyond the 3-poinT arc.

Purdue is a solid, but I think Ohio State is too deep and they will win this game and hand Purdue their first home loss of the season.

Betting Trends

Ohio State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games and Purdue is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.

Pick: Ohio State
