UCLA (21-8) is tied with Arizona atop the Pac 10 conference and they can improve their seed in the Big Dance with a win over Washington (19-9) in the Great Northwest this evening. NCAAB lines have Washington as 8.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 150.
In their last games Washington lost to in-state rival Washington State 80-69 on Sunday while UCLA had a HUGE win laying a serious beat down on, then, 10th ranked Arizona 71-49 on Saturday.
Washington has been a better betting team on the season at 14-11-1 ATS while UCLA has been just a mediocre team to lay some green on at 14-14-1 ATS.
UCLA lost badly at home to Washington 74-63 on December 31st and then in their next game lost their first game of the New Year. Since that time the Bruins have been a different team going 12-2. They come into this game with a lot of confidence, especially after how they played in their last win over Arizona.
While the Bruins have been a great team in the 2nd half Washington has not been and they may be on the NCAA tournament bubble. They are only 7-6 in their last 13 games and they have lost 2 of their last 3. If they can win this game they will hit 20 wins and they will likely get an invite to the Big Dance.
Washington ranks 2nd in the nation in scoring and 11th in the nation in rebounding and they are led by G Isaiah Thomas (16.9 ppg) and F Matthew Bryan-Amaning (16.5 ppg 8.3 rpg). While the Huskies’ offense is great the same cannot be said about their defense. Washington ranks 246th in the nation in opponents’ points per game (70.9 ppg) and in their last 3 games they have really played poorly giving up an average of 80.3 ppg.
UCLA is led by F Reeves Nelson (14 ppg 9 rpg) and G Reeves Nelson (13.3 ppg). Nelson had a monster game in the win over Arizona going for 27 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. If he puts up those types of numbers in this game UCLA has a good chance at the upset.
UCLA has the nation’s 97th ranked defense (65.7 ppg) and unlike Washington in their last 3 games they have stepped up their D only allowing an average of 59.3 ppg. In the win over Arizona UCLA held the Wildcats to only shoot 31.5% from the floor.
Even though the Huskies beat the Bruins in La La Land earlier this season UCLA is a different and much better team. Hard to believe they are getting 8.5 points, as they may not win, but they will definitely cover the spread.
