The Purdue Boilermakers are one of the hottest teams entering the madness of March and they look to finish the Big Ten regular season with a victory over the hapless Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City on Saturday.

Purdue has won seven straight and eight of their last nine. They are coming off a solid 75-67 defeat of Illinois on senior night in West Lafayette. The only other victory for Purdue not by double digits in this stretch was an eight-point triumph over Wisconsin, the only team to defeat the Boilermakers since January 26.

JaJuan Johnson scored 23 points in the victory over the Fighting Illini.  He is averaging 20.5 points per contest to go along with eight rebounds per game. He is just ahead of Penn State’s Talor Battle for the scoring lead in the Big Ten Conference. The Boilermakers can clinch a share of the Big Ten regular season if Ohio State loses as well.

Senior guard E’Twaun Moore has been solid as well for Purdue, averaging 18.5 points per outing and shooting 41.6% from three-point range. He has scored 20+ points eleven times, most recently pouring in a season-best 38 in the victory over Ohio State two weeks ago.

For Iowa, it has been a disappointing season yet again for Fran McCaffrey’s bunch. This will mark the fifth consecutive season that Iowa will not qualify for the NCAA Tournament. They have lost six straight, and are just 7-8 at Carver-Hawkeye this season.

One bright spot for Iowa has been the play of Melsahn Basabe. He is first on the Hawkeyes and third in the Big Ten in field goal percentage at 57.5% while scoring 11.2 points per game, second best for Iowa. The leading scorer for the Hawkeyes is Matt Gatens, who is at 12.6 points per game.

CBB Betting Trends:

PURD are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Sat. games.
Under is 6-2 in IOWA last 8 Sat. games.
IOWA are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Sat. games.
Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Iowa.
PURD are 2-6 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Iowa.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Purdue – The Boilermakers are a lock for the NCAA Tournament, so this game is all about finishing the season strong and avoiding injuries in advance of next week’s conference tournament in Indianapolis. Iowa must protect the ball better, having committed 16 turnovers in their earlier loss to Purdue.

So, all I gotta do to make money is bet ‘da opposite of you’se guy’s picks?

The Boilers have a great duo in JaJuan Johnson and E’Twaun Moore, but that team really didn’t respond when it mattered in this one. Way to just hand the Big Ten to the Buckeyes.
