Texas A&M Aggies vs. Texas Longhorns Preview

Both Texas A&M (24-7) and Texas (26-6) can greatly improve their seed in the NCAA Tournament if they can win this game and advance to the Big 12 Championship game.

In the quarterfinals of the Big 12 conference tourney yesterday Texas A&M was impressive in their 86-71 win over Missouri and Texas was equally impressive in their 74-54 win over Oklahoma.

Texas A&M was a good betting team this season going 13-9-1 ATS and Texas was one of the best teams in the college game to lay green on going 19-8 ATS this season. The favorite is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 games between these 2 Big 12 rivals.

These teams met twice this season and the Longhorns killed the Aggies in both games winning both by at least 20 points.

It is no secret what the Aggies have to do on defense to win this game, as they have to try to contain Jordan Hamilton (18.5 ppg 7.6 rpg) and Tristan Thompson (13.5 ppg 7.7 rpg), who both had double-doubles in the win over Oklahoma combining for 35 points and 21 rebounds. Texas A&M has a good defense ranking 23rd in the nation in opponents’ points per game and in the win over Missouri they held the Tigers to only 33.8% shooting.

While Aggies’ leading scorer Khris Middleton (14.4 ppg) struggled yesterday only scoring 9 points on 3/8 shooting the trio of B.J. Holmes, David Loubeau, and Nathan Walkup were on fire shooting a combined 17/24 from the floor to score 56 points. The Aggies hit 10 of 20 of their 3-pointers, but can they score on a Texas defense that ranks 16th in the nation and routed them twice this season?

In the games between these 2 teams this season Texas shot at least 50% from the field and won the battle of the boards and if that happens in this game Texas A&M will lose their 3rd straight game against Texas.

You can be sure that Texas will be giving Texas A&M quite a few points, but the Aggies are playing well and while they may not win they will not get blown out so they will cover the spread.

Betting Trends

Texas A&M is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning percentage above 60%.
Texas is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games, but only 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.

Pick: Texas A&M ATS
