Notre Dame vs. Kentucky

Those betting on NCAA football can turn their attention to the hardwood until bowl season, as Kentucky will face off with Notre Dame in the SEC/Big East Invitational, which will be held at Freedom Hall in Louisville (the former home of Kentucky’s biggest rivals). The Wildcats were upset on the road last weekend, and they’ll be out to make a statement against the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame Kentucky Betting – Wednesday, 9:30 PM ET

The No.25 Fighting Irish (8-0) did very well to avoid an upset at the hands of Indiana State as they held off the Sycamores for an 81-72 victory at home, getting 24 points from Ben Hansbrough, including 19 in the second half. Tyrone Nash had 16 points and seven boards for the Fighting Irish, who shot 53.8% from the field and hit nine of the 20 three-point attempts. The Fighting Irish also outrebounded the Sycamores 32-20, which helped overcome a 12-7 deficit in turnovers. Notre Dame won the Old Spice Classic and could have been looking ahead to this game, but they kept their eyes on the Sycamores and remain unbeaten heading into this big test.

The No.10 Wildcats (5-2) came out on the wrong end of a 75-73 back-and-forth game at North Carolina, shooting just 38.7% from the floor, and they were outrebounded 40-32. Doron Lamb came off the bench to net 24 points, while Brandon Knight added 15 for the Wildcats, who have now dropped two of their last three. Knight is the guy to watch for if you check out NBA betting odds and are trying to figure out who will be the top picks in next year’s draft, but the Wildcats showed that they’re going to need more than their freshman point guard. The dismissal of big man Enes Kanter really hurts Kentucky’s chances to go far in the NCAA Tournament as all of the top favorites can go inside: we’re not sure they can do that.

Betting services should favor the Wildcats, who are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five meetings with Notre Dame, and their lone loss to the Fighting Irish came in the quarterfinals of the 2009 NIT, when they fell 77-67. The Fighting Irish aren’t that big either, which means this game will be played primarily on the perimeter. We’re going to put our money on Kentucky as we think they’ll have a bigger crowd presence at the game, seeing as how it is in their state. This is also a matter of, we don’t think Notre Dame is as good as they’ve shown, and we don’t think Kentucky is as bad as they’ve shown.

Pick: Look for Knight to win his duel with Hansbrough to lift the Wildcats to an online sports betting win.
