No. 3 Indiana Hoosiers vs. Purdue Boilermakers Preview

The Hoosiers beat the Boilermakers twice last season and they cannot over look them to their HUGE game this Saturday facing 2nd ranked Michigan. NCAAB lines have Indiana as 8-point road favorites with a total of 136.

In their last games Purdue beat Iowa 65-62 in OT and Indiana beat a ranked Michigan State team 75-70.

On the season Indiana is 9-9 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 8-8 and Purdue is 8-10-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 9-8.

This season Purdue is 9-3 at home and Indiana is 3-0 on the road.

Indiana is the nation’s 2nd highest scoring team led by Player of the Year candidate Cody Zeller (16 ppg 8.1 rpg). However, he has struggled in his last 2 games only combing to score 11 points on 2/11 shooting. Still, the Hoosiers have 4 other players that are averaging in double figures led by Victor Oladipo, who is coming off a career high 21 points in the win over Michigan State.

The Boilermakers have won 4 of their last 5 games, but when they played a top 5 Michigan team in that span they were crushed. Purdue has lost 14 of their last 17 games facing ranked teams. [ad-6571516]

Indiana has not started Big 10 play 4-0 since the 1992-1993 season.

G Terone Johnson (13.5 ppg) and G/FW D.J. Byrd (10.5 ppg) are the only Purdue players averaging in double figures and they need to shoot the rock well to have any chance to score an upset.

Purdue is getting solid play from 7′ freshman C A.J. Hammons (9.7 ppg 6.3 rpg) and if he plays good D against Zeller the Boilermakers have a much better chance to win. In the win over Iowa Purdue dominated the paint and they have to play good inside again, but that will be much easier if the guards can knock down their outside shots.

In some betting trends for this Big 10 match up Indiana is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 road games.

Purdue is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, and they have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.

Jason’s Pick: Indiana has covered the spread in 5 of their last 7 games at Purdue, but that trend will not continue. I think their home crowd will spurn on Purdue and while they may not win they will cover the 8-point spread.
