NCAA Basketball Betting – Non-Conference Revelations

Before College Football Gambling fans turn their attention to other sports betting events this week, we have a Wednesday NCAA game of the day pick for you. It’s time for our weekly basketball picks for online ncaa hoops betting action.

Those betting on NCAA football odds still have a couple of bowl games to deal with over the holidays, but there are no big games until Monday on the hardwood, so let’s look back at the non-conference portion of the NCAA basketball schedule.

The re-emergence of UConn

The Huskies went from the Final Four to the NIT, and there were whispers that Jim Calhoun was done. But UConn is now fourth in the rankings after not even receiving any preseason votes, and Kemba Walker is second in the nation in scoring. UConn has wins over Michigan State and Kentucky so far, and they should be a force when the Big East season starts on Monday with a top-10 showdown at Pitt.

Kyrie Irving and his toe

Some online NBA betting players moved Irving to the top of the draft rankings after averaging 17.4 points and 5.1 assists through eight games, and he was brilliant in games against Michigan State and Kansas State, both of whom have great guards. But the freshman is derailed because of a toe injury now, and we don’t know when he’ll be back, robbing not only the Blue Devils of a great player, but us fans who caught a glimpse of his potential.

Is Harrison Barnes the truth?

Barnes was the first freshman to be named to the preseason All-American team, but he and his Tar Heels have stumbled out of the gate. Barnes is shooting 36.2% from the floor and 28.9% from long range, but he had an encouraging performance in a loss against Texas. Barnes doesn’t seem like a type that will take over, like everyone wants him to do, but he’s too talented to not improve as the season goes on.

Is anything wrong with Michigan State?

UFC betting players haven’t seen anyone get beat on like the Spartans have so far this season. Michigan State has played UConn, Washington, Duke and Syracuse so far, and will play Texas on Wednesday night, and they’ve only beaten the Huskies in a neutral-site affair. Even those making NFL predictions can see that is a murderer’s row, so don’t worry about the Spartans, who have reached the Final four five times since 2000.

The Big East is still king

Heading into the Christmas weekend, the Big East has five teams in the top 10 (UConn, Syracuse, Pitt, Villanova and Georgetown), Notre Dame is also in the top 25, and Louisville, West Virginia and Cincinnati are making noise. The Big East is perennially, top to bottom, the best conference in the country, and even though they haven’t won a national title since UConn cut down the nets in 2004, the Big East should have plenty of sports betting options come March.
