Team records:
Baylor: 25-6 SU, 16-8 ATS
Kansas State: 25-6 SU, 18-8 ATS

The No. 9 Kansas State Wildcats while face the No. 21 Baylor Bears in the semifinal round of the 2010 Big 12 Tournament from the Sprint Center in Kansas City on Friday night.

The Wildcats edged out the Bears 74-72 in a thriller back on Jan 26. KSU hold a slim 11-10 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. Awaiting the winner of this contest is a matchup with either top-seeded Kansas or fourth-seeded Texas A&M in Saturday’s championship game.

Second-seeded Baylor carry a four-game win streak into tonight’s affair including a dominating 86-67 quarterfinal romp over sixth-seeded Texas on Thursday. Junior forward Ekpe Udoh shot 9-of-14 from the floor en route to 25 points, while Tweety Carter added 20 points and leading scorer LaceDarius Dunn (19.2 ppg) chipped in his average 19 points in the win. The Bears shot 53.6 percent from the field, and with solid defense limited the Longhorns to an anemic 36.4 percent shooting efficiency.

Baylor is scoring 77.7 ppg while allowing only 65.4 ppg on 38.1 percent shooting, and are outrebounding foes by 6.9 rpg. They really pack it in the paint on both ends of the floor.

As for the second-seed Wildcats, they crushed Oklahoma State by an 83-64 final in yesterday’s quarterfinal round. Sophomore forward Jamar Samuels lead the charge with 27 points and 10 rebounds while leading scorer Jacob Pullen (18.9 ppg) scored 19 points. Rounding out the foursome of double-digit scorers was senior Denis Clemente (128 assists) with 12 points and 10 assists and Dominique Sutton with 11 points in the blowout.

The ‘Cats shot 53.1 percent from the floor and limited the Cowboys to 33.3 percent and had already mounted a 25-point lead heading into halftime. KSU finished with a 43-27 rebounding advantage that well exceeded their 5.6 rpg average, and dished up 20 assists.

The Wildcats are posting 80.2 ppg while limiting opponents to 69.2 ppg this season.

The Bears has never won a Big 12 Tournament and is 9-12 all-time in the event. KSU has also never hoisted the Big 12 Tournament crown, and is 8-13 all-time.

Bears vs. Wildcats Free CBB Pick

This year’s group of Wildcats is a serious threat to capture the crown, but the Bears will hit them hard with their scoring trio keeping this one close for much of the contest. I expect a buzzer beater to decide this contest with K-State advancing to the final.
