College Hoops Betting Trends – How to Beat the Oddsmakers

What every sports bettor should know is that betting, like most things in life, is best judged through statistical analysis. There is always some intuition that individuals should follow when picking their teams, as everyday there are exceptions to the rule. But as you’ll see, in the long run, numbers don’t lie.If you’re in the business of making money, and I’m sure most of you are, then take a look at these up to date numbers and see how they could relate to your wallet when betting on NCAA Basketball.

Straight Up Betting

The purpose of the moneyline is to scare people away from the favorite because you have to risk so much to win a little. On the other hand, the underdog is so enticing because of they payout if they pull of the upset. What is a certainty in sports betting is that the favorite is usually always a safe bet as you will see in the numbers below.

When it comes to straight up betting or betting against the money line, the away teams have not faired as well, as one might imagine, with a record of 936-2261. That’s a percentage of approximately 30%. On the other side of the court is the home team, and they are winning right around 70% of the games. There are some games that are played at neutral sites and these would be the games you would go with your gut on.

Favorites, which would be the teams with the high risk to reward money lines, are winning over 76% of the time with a record of 1222-385. The ever enticing underdogs are only pulling off the upset around 24% of the time. Away favorites are converting at a slightly lower percentage at 69%, which can be attributed to the all important home court advantage. Home favorites are the safest bet out of any you can make when it comes to college ball as they are 951-263 which is close to a 79% conversion rate.

Against The Spread

This is where things become much tighter and you realize how good the oddsmakers are at their job. Away teams ATS are 800-772-38 which is a winning percentage of 50.89 and favorites are 792-777-38 which is a barely over 50%. Your best bet ATS is to take the away favorites who win 53% of the time. The spread is truly is a great equalizer and is where skilled bettors know the inside scoop and can make their bets wisely. After looking at the numbers I had to give props to the BetUS oddsmakers who clearly know the college hoops.

Over vs. Under Trends

Your best shot at catching an over is if the game goes to overtime, duh. If you’re lucky enough to take the over and the game goes into extra time, the over converts at nearly 91%. In regular time games it’s the under that has been converting at a respectable 52.5% which helps to equal out the total percentages for O/U totals which sit at 49.83% for the over and 50.17% for the under.
