Arizona St. Sun Devils vs. Stanford Cardinal Gambling Prediction & CBB Preview

Sun Devils vs Cardinal Pac 12 Tourney Spread/Handicapping

A couple of weeks ago Arizona State was in great shape…then they lost their last 4 games to finish just 9-9 in a far from stacked PAC 12. They have 20 victories on the season but probably need at least a couple more to improve their position on the bubble.

Arizona State

They are 3-7 in their last 10 and the committee has admitted that they definitely consider how a team finishes.

With no wins against ranked teams ASU may be cooked if they don’t impress starting right now.

Speedy freshman point guard Jahii Carson has been tremendous this season.  He is leading the team in scoring and assists and can take over the game for stretches.  He gets solid scoring support from senior Carrick Felix who just might be the best rebounder under 200 pounds in America – averaging more than 8 boards per game.

Canadian Jordan Bachynski, a legit center, continues to get better and better.

Despite their recent spate of losses ASU has been solid for bettors at 16-10 ATS for the season.  In fact that is the second best mark in the conference which I guess means this team is making bettors think they are worse than they really are.  The key is Carson.  I think the Cardinal and their attention to defense will contain him.

Stanford

The Stanford Cardinal were also among 4 teams that finished the season deadlocked at 9-9, tying for 6th in the standings.  They got there a little differently, winning their last two games of the season including a very impressive road win at rival Cal.  The Cardinal also won at ASU beating the Sun Devils by 3 back in February.

The momentum is all on Stanford’s side as they look to also prove they belong in the Tournament. [ad-6571516]

When I look at the Stanford roster I see a team that should probably be better.  They have productive bigs in Dwight Powell and Josh Huestis who combine for 29 points and 17+ boards per game and the backcourt of Aaron Bright and Chasson Randle is not bad either.  This group just seems to be really inconsistent – see the .500 record.

They seem to either play up or down to their competition and that is not a good strategy.

Stanford is a good defensive team which I think will pay off against Arizona State.  They are also one of the better free throw shooting teams in the country which makes them a treat to watch down the stretch of close games.

They have more momentum heading into this one and will continue to live another day.

Spread Pick: Stanford -3.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Stanford 68 – Arizona State 60
