2011 CBB Predictions & Gambling Preview: Wisconsin Badgers (Big Ten)

The Wisconsin Badgers are always good but seldom great.  This seems like another one of those teams with Jordan Taylor leading the way.

He is a rare true point guard these days but he can score too and against mediocre teams he can be all the difference.

Against the better teams he is going to need some more help and right now I don’t even think coach Bo Ryan is sure where that is going to come from.

They do have some shooters but we will have to wait until the season unfolds to see if there is any real replacement to the production they got inside from Jon Leuer and Keaton Nankevil.

Those two were an underrated post tandem.

Additions

Jarrod Uthoff – A freshman forward scorer who will have to supply some offense.
Evan Anderson – Big body will provide size if nothing else.

Subtractions

Jon Leuer
Keaton Nankevil
Tim Jarmusz

Key Players

Jordan Taylor – The best point guard in the country.
Josh Gasser – A good shooter and system player.
Jon Bruesewitz – Frenetic energy player who will need to be consistent as a starter. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Strengths

System – Every year this team does better than people think it will because it stays within itself and forces opponents to play a style they aren’t comfortable with or want to play.

They are going to have really work the system this year as it feels like the overall talent level, other than Taylor, is lower than it has been recently.

Weaknesses

Athleticism – I know it plays into stereotypes but the Badgers are almost never the most athletic team on the court.  This is why their system is so key.  This is important to note because unlike other teams they can only really compete against good teams by playing one way – the Badger way.  If they have to run up and down they usually struggle

Post Season

I see at least one win the tournament but not much else.

Championship Odds

40/1
Projected wins 25
