Utah Jazz vs. San Antonio Spurs Preview

On Saturday night in the Lone Star State in a game that really does not mean anything to each team the team with the best record in the NBA in the San Antonio Spurs (60-19) takes on the reeling Utah Jazz (37-42).

In their last games the Spurs killed the Sacramento Kings 124-92 and the Jazz lost to the Portland Trailblazers 98-87.

San Antonio has also been a better wagering team on the season at 44-33-2 ATS while the Jazz are only 32-45-2 ATS. The Spurs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 home games against the Jazz.

This Season San Antonio has won both games against Utah and the Spurs are 35-5 at home and the Jazz are 17-22 on the road.

With the Western Conference top-seed already wrapped up how much will Spurs’ stars Tim Duncan (13.4 ppg 9 rpg), Manu Ginobili (17.7 ppg) and Tony Parker (17.7 ppg) play? I would say not much since they need these 2 to be totally healthy come playoff time. Utah is really hoping to see Duncan on the beach because of this rebounding, as the Jazz only rank 26th in the league in rebounds per game. NBA Betting

The Jazz have lost 9 of their last 10 games and they will head into this game shorthanded with Andrei Kirilenko, Raja Bell, and Francisco Elson all questionable due to injuries. For the Jazz to win they have to score since their defense only ranks 19th in the league in opponents’ points per game. That responsibility will fall on the Jazz players of Al Jefferson (18.7 ppg), Paul Millsap (17.4 ppg), and Devin Harris (15.4 ppg). If these guys struggle the Jazz will be headed for another loss.

With the starters likely not playing many minutes for San Antonio the role and bench players will have to step up and play well for the Spurs to win this game.

The Jazz are really hurting, literally, and while the Spurs are obviously a better team I have to give Utah some betting value in this game. They will be dangerous knowing they have nothing to gain so they will come out and play hard and while they may not win they will at least cover the spread.

Betting Trends

Utah is 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 road games against teams with a home winning percentage of greater than 60% and has an Under record of 6-0 in their last 6 games.

San Antonio is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and has an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 home games.

Pick: Jazz
