Each year the NBA seems to offer up a new challenger to the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, who are generally considered the worst team ever in the Association. Those Sixers managed to double-dribble their way to a 9-73 record, including a 2-36 mark away from home. This season’s edition of the Washington Wizards is head and shoulders above those long-ago Sixers, with 16 victories overall. But the Wiz have just one win on the road, and have zero chance of doubling that total tonight in Chicago.

Washington, whose only road win came in Cleveland on Feb. 13, has just not been able to gain any traction as it tries to assemble a team from scratch in the aftermath of the Gilbert Arenas gun fiasco last season. The offense starts (and all too often ends) with rookie PG John Wall, who has nice numbers (15.6 ppg and 8.7 apg), but there is not much talent around him. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Nick Young leads the team in scoring at 17.7 and Andray Blatche (16 a game) is OK, but Rashard Lewis has shown little since coming over from Orlando in the Arenas deal, and the rest of the roster is filled out by players who couldn’t seem significant time with most other teams in the league. As Rick Pitino once said of statistics, “Someone has to score on bad teams.”

Washington has not even been able to live up to its own low expectations – the Wizards are a godawful 23-42 ATS this season, money-makers only for those who have had enough foresight to fade what is among the worst teams in the league.

It gets only worse. Most of the Wizards’ final month of the season (11 of 17) will be on the road, including a 5-game Western swing. If the Wizards are to avoid the stigma of being the worst road team in league history, the best shot could be in the final game of the season, when they again play in Cleveland.

NBA Trends:

Under is 15-5 in WAS last 20 vs. NBA Central.
Under is 6-2 in WAS last 8 overall.
WAS are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 road games.
CHI are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 Tue. games.
Under is 7-1 in CHI last 8 vs. Eastern Conference.
Under is 8-2 in CHI last 10 overall.
Under is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings.
Underdog is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings.

Best Bet: Few lines in the NBA get heavier than 16, and backing the favorite always carries the risk of a garbage-time beat. Prospects appear better on the total, as Chicago has developed into one of the best defensive teams in recent NBA history.

The over has covered in only 26 of the Bulls’ 65 games this season, and a play on the under tonight should pay off.
