The Philadelphia Story could be the NBA’s most interesting this season. Left for dead after that dreadful 3-13 start and operating off the radar screen throughout the winter months, the 76ers have scratched their way into the playoff picture and have claimed the title as the Eastern Conference Team that No One Wants to Face.

And Philly’s performance in the final week of the season will have a significant influence on who its first-round opponent will be.

In fact, if the 76ers can knock off the limping Celtics in Boston tonight, it will go a long way toward guaranteeing a 3-6 matchup between the two teams, especially if Doug Collins’s overachievers can make it two straight by beating the Knicks tomorrow night.

All heady stuff for the 76ers, who were given last rites over the Thanksgiving holiday before forcing themselves into playoff contention with solid play in December, January and February. And they’ve done it with basically the same cast that struggled to a 27-55 record last year and a berth in the lottery. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

What’s different? Well, Collins has figured out how to best use the plodding Elton Brand on a team which likes to run.

With Brand maneuvering effectively on the block, Andre Iguodala has become a more-effective 3-point shooter, and while Iguodala’s scoring is down 3 poiints a game (17.1 last year, 14.1 this year), he’s playing two fewer minutes a game and his legs should be fresher for the playoffs.

Jrue Holiday has become a player, and Louis Williams, Thaddeus Young and Jodie Meeks give the 76ers a terrific energy team.

NBA Trends:

PHI are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. NBA Atlantic.
Under is 11-3 in BOS last 14 overall.
Road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

BEST BET: In Boston, Doc Rivers has to decide – and decide fast – whether he puts his foot on the accelerator to try to catch Miami for the 2 seed, or monitor minutes and try to get everyone reasonably healthy for the playoffs.

Amazing how a year ago it was all about the Big Three and now everything revolves around the Injured Three Centers – Nenad Krstic, and the two O’Neals.

There is no line on this game as of this morning due to the possible availability of Shaquille O’Neal.
