The Portland Trail Blazers seem to be losing body mass every season, and this year’s group is no different. The Blazers are struggling to stay around .500 after winning 50 games last season and 54 in 2008-09, so you have to wonder what the overall plan is, if there is indeed an overall plan for the franchise.

With all hands back on deck, Orlando (15-6) will be trying to snap its second two-game losing streak of the season when they face Portland (10-11).

Brandon Roy remains The Man, but The Man continues to battle nagging injuries and his legs could be warm jelly by the time games start on the other side of the All-Star break. LaMarcus Aldridge can ball, and Marcus Camby can get the job done underneath, if only in spurts. Free agent signee Wes Matthews is a thoroughbred, but he seems out of a place on one of the few clubs in the league that makes no bones about trying to slow down the pace of the game. At least the Blazers will have their point guard back when they play host to the Orlando Magic tonight. Andre Miller sat out Tuesday night after being suspended one game by the league for lowering his shoulder and plowing into the Clippers’ Blake Griffin a few nights ago. Seems Griffin had gotten away with a couple of pushes and Miller took offense.

The Trail Blazers have traditionally had success at slowing down Howard. The Orlando center is averaging just 14.9 points in 12 career games against Portland.

[Interestingly, Miller defended himself by stating that he shouldn’t have been suspended because veterans (Miller) should be treated differently by the officials than rookies (Griffin). And without Miller the Blazers went out and beat the Suns, 106-99, scoring 11 points higher than their season average of 95.]

Best bet: The Magic also get their PG back tonight, as Jameer Nelson (stomach virus) returns just in time for the start of Orlando’s 4-game Western swing. Nelson’s absence might explain the Magic’s last two games – both losses, to Milwaukee and Atlanta – that were largely the result of horrendous shooting (10 for 44 combined) behind the 3-point arc.

If Orlando can’t make its 3-pointers, it’s usually a rough night overall. With the two PGs back and figuring the offenses to run smoothly, it might be a time to take a good look at the Over (186). Parlay players could match that up with another Over on Boston-Philly.
