Knicks vs. Bulls

Team records:
New York: 1-2 SU, 2-0-1 ATS
Chicago: 2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS

Time: Thursday 8 ET
Venue: United Center, Chicago
Spread: Bulls -7
Over/Under: 203.5

It’s hasn’t quite reached the Albert Haynseworth/Mike Shanahan stage, but in an NBA starved for non-Lebron controversy, Mike D’Antoni’s mini-spat with Danillo Gallinari will have to suffice for now. Basically, D’Antoni says that Gallinari is losing playing time because he hasn’t shot well. Gallinari says the poor shooting is due to an injured wrist. D’Antoni says the wrist will feel a lot better if he makes a few shots.

And that’s about it. The Knicks are off to a 1-2 start (Tuesday’s game at home was postponed when asbestos starting falling from the ceiling) heading into Thursday night’s TNT opener at Chicago. The Bulls have beaten the teams they figured to beat (Portland and Detroit at home) and lost the game they figured to lose (at Oklahoma City), so Thursday’s matchup is a continuation of the November feeling-out process of two teams each trying to move up a notch in the Eastern Conference pecking order. For the Knicks, so far so pretty good. Amar’e Stoudemire looks like he will become the franchise centerpiece that NY has been starving for, and point guard Ray Felton is better than anyone else the Knicks have had at the position for a while even if he hasn’t been the take-charge 1 that D’Antoni is looking for. Wilson Chandler is averaging 21 and 10, stealing Gallinari’s minutes at the 4.

Chicago, meanwhile, is pretty much the same team it was last season – good but not good enough to make the Bostons, Miamis and Orlandos sweat too much. The Bulls will be a point guard-centric team behind Derrick Rose, marking time for several more weeks until forward Carlos Boozer returns from a hand injury and Chicago gets a chance to see what it really has.

Best parlay bet: Both New York and Chicago are well-rested for this one, and the Bulls are a solid favorites based partially on the fact that they have won their two home games by a combined total of 22 points. They weren’t threatened by either Detroit or Portland. Teams with new players trying to sort things out early in the season don’t often play well on the road, so Chicago deserves a good look here.

Oklahoma City got taken out by the Clippers in LA Wednesday night as Kevin Durant was held to 16 and the Thunder shot just 37 percent from the floor. OKC just doesn’t look right, and is giving up way too many points.

Betting Trends:

The total has gone UNDER in 5 of New York’s last 7 games when playing Chicago
The total has gone UNDER in 8 of New York’s last 12 games when playing on the road against Chicago
The total has gone OVER in 6 of New York’s last 8 games on the road
The total has gone OVER in 5 of New York’s last 7 games
Chicago is 11-1 SU in its last 12 games when playing at home against New York
Chicago is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home
Chicago is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing New York

At 192.5 the Over deserves a look here.
