TRAIL BLAZERS vs. WARRIORS

Time: Thursday 10:30 ET
Venue: Oracle Arena, Oakland
Spread: Trail Blazers -5
Over/Under: 212.5

Team records:
Portland: 38-28 SU, 36-29-1 ATS
Golden State: 17-46 SU, 35-27-1 ATS

Is it written into the NBA bylaws that every malcontent must spend at least part of his career with the Warriors? Seems like it. Latrell Sprewell certainly set the bar high, but the Stephen Jacksons and Baron Davises who followed did their best to follow in his footsteps.

Fan support is not a problem. The Warriors are a solid draw on the Left Coast despite another pile-of-manure season (14 wins) and a permanent seat at the NBA draft lottery.

A few years back the Warriors were actually decent, with Davis, Jackson and Monta Ellis each scoring over 20 points a game and evoking memories of the RUN TMC 1990s when Tim Hardaway, Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond made life uncomfortable.

But the Warriors lost Davis when they couldn’t sign him, Jackson mouthed off before this season even started and was dealt away, and Ellis has been in and out of the lineup with knee and back troubles. Coach Don Nelson has built the offense around rookie Stephen Curry, who has shown he can go off for 25 or 30 at any night.

Then again, just about anyone on the roster can score 20 when no one is asked to play any defense. The Warriors are by far the worst defenders in the league, giving up 5 more points a game than the next-worst (Minnesota).

Portland, a team which actually does dig in a bit defensively, comes to town tonight in the back end of the NBA TNT doubleheader.Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

THURSDAY NIGHT BEST NBA PARLAY BET:

No secrets in the opener. Bulls have lost 5 straight, Magic have won 6 straight.

Noah is out, and Dwight Howard could go off for 35 in this one. Chicago likes to run, but injuries – Taj Gibson and Brad Miller also might not play – has left the team depleted. If the number (Orlando -12.5) is too heavy for your liking, the over would be a good alternative, as the Magic players love to pad their stats at home against bad teams. By this time next week Chicago’s season will be unofficially over.

The Warriors have lost 5 in a row and 7 of 8, and appear in full shutdown mode. Portland probably needs to go 11-5 in its last 16 to grab the 7th playoff seed and avoid the Lakers in the first round. Either Blazers -5 or the over there.
