HEAT vs. NUGGETS

Time: Thursday 10:30 ET
Venue: Pepsi Center
Spread: Heat -3
Over/Under: 205

Miami’s nice little 18-2 has more than eradicated any concerns that developed when the NBA’s version of the Yankees dropped 8 of their first 20 games, but if the Heat don’t win the NBA championship this season, it will be because of games like Wednesday night’s in Los Angeles. Dwyane Wade scored 31, LeBron James 27 and Chris Bosh scored 21 against the Clippers. Not bad at all. But the rest of the Heat scored a total of 21 points, and Miami fell, 111-105, after giving up an astounding total of 44 points in the first quarter.

Ok, the Clippers aren’t half bad. They’ve got 3 wins in a row and 5 of the last 7. They’re probably headed back to the lottery, but a second-place finish in the There’s-the-Lakers-and-there’s-everyone-else Pacific Division is not out of the question. Still, they were able to stop the hottest team in the league Wednesday by basically letting the Big Three have their way and stopping the Little Eight.

James, meanwhile, is dealing with yet another self-inflicted wound after sticking it to his former team on Twitter shortly after the injury-plagued Cavaliers were waxed by 55 by the Lakers. James backed off his comments a bit before last night’s game, but the damage was done and James again paints himself as one of league biggest self-absorbed, me-first egomaniac. James’s reputation has taken a constant beating for his decision to hire his high school friends as advisers and not a professional agent. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

None of the above is the Nuggets’ problem, however, and they have more than enough on their plate as they try to both trade Carmelo Anthony and stay competitive at the same time – the equivalent of spinning plates on long poles. The Anthony situation clouds everything that the Nuggets do, and when talk intensified of a potential deal to New Jersey, Denver went out and lost at LA (Clippers) and Sacramento before pulling things together against Phoenix a few nights ago.

It’s pretty clear that fans should get a good look at the Nuggets tonight, because the chances are at about 100 percent that they will look a lot different when they make their next Thursday TNT appearance, on Feb. 10.

TNT NBA Gambling Trends:

Miami is 13-1 SU in its last 14 games on the road
Miami is 21-2 SU in its last 23 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of last 6 games when playing Denver
The total has gone OVER in 4 of last 6 games when playing on the road against Denver
Denver is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Miami
Denver is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games when playing Miami
Denver is 15-3 SU in its last 18 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of last 6 games at home

Best bets: There’s no substitute for young legs in dealing with the grind of the NBA regular season, but Erik Spoelstra was forced to play James, Wade and Bosh about 40 minutes each last night. Expect a big game tonight from Anthony, if for no other reason to impress the Knicks (supposedly still in the trade talks).

Liking Denver getting 2.5. In the opener, Oklahoma City and Orlando are both coming off road games, but the Magic managed just 89 points in an overtime loss in New Orleans and may be starting to feel the effects of a busy schedule. Tonight’s game will be their 6th in 11 days. Thunder should win this one.
