In the TNT opener, 17-4 Boston (8 straight wins and owner of the best record in the Eastern Conference) continues its Terrorize the League Tour by taking on the 76ers in Philadelphia. The Sixers have won 4 of 5, and after their horrendous start they don’t care that the four wins were against losing teams and the one loss was against a decent club (Atlanta).
They’ll take them any way they can as they try to figure out if they want/need to make a major move before the trading deadline.
The 76ers are suddenly playing solid basketball and enter Thursday’s home contest against the red-hot Celtics with a rare dose of confidence after overcoming a horrible start.
Boston’s most-recent loss was to the Toronto Raptors on Nov. 21. The Celtics have notched four victories of 16 or more points during their eight-game winning streak.
Boston is 7-3 on the road this season.
Best bet: The Magic also get their PG back tonight, as Jameer Nelson (stomach virus) returns just in time for the start of Orlando’s 4-game Western swing. Nelson’s absence might explain the Magic’s last two games – both losses, to Milwaukee and Atlanta – that were largely the result of horrendous shooting (10 for 44 combined) behind the 3-point arc.
If Orlando can’t make its 3-pointers, it’s usually a rough night overall. With the two PGs back and figuring the offenses to run smoothly, it might be a time to take a good look at the Over (186). Parlay players could match that up with another Over on Boston-Philly.
