NBA: TRENDS POINT TO UNDERDOGS
Dallas and San Antonio are two of the NBA’s hottest teams, but betting trends suggest taking the underdog New York Knicks and L.A. Clippers Thursday night.
The Knicks have a date with the Dallas Mavericks in Big D while the Clippers travel to San Antonio in the only two games on a night that’s light in action.

Getting back to the Thursday night games, the Knicks are at the surprising Dallas Mavericks.
New York (13-20) made a couple of trades in late November when Zach Randolph and Jamal Crawford were jettisoned to the L.A. Clippers and Golden State Warriors respectively, and New York got back Al Harrington, Tim Thomas and some spare change.
The Knicks have gone 6-14 since the trade, but are 11-9 ATS and have covered eight of their last 10 on the road.
Dallas (21-13) wasn’t supposed to contend with the likes of San Antonio, Houston and New Orleans in the Southwest Division, but that’s exactly what they’re doing.
Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki has taken this team on his back and his 26.2 PPG ranks fourth in the league. A big plus has been the bench where Jason Terry (20.7 PPG), Brandon Bass and Jose Juan Barrea give the team a lot of options and flexibility.
The Mavs have gone 19-6 straight-up since starting out at 2-7. However, one big issue has been covering spreads at home, where they are an alarming 4-13 ATS.
The other game on Thursday night is also at 8:30 pm ET and it’s the L.A. Clippers at the San Antonio Spurs.
San Antonio is 23-11 on the year, but they are on fire just like Dallas, going 21-6 since starting the season at 2-5. Interestingly enough, the Spurs have also struggled ATS at home, going 1-6-1 ATS there despite being 7-1 straight-up.
The Spurs opponent is the terrible L.A. Clippers (8-26). They have lost seven games in a row despite getting more than 25 PPG from rookie guard Eric Gordon in the last five.
Zach Randolph has scored over 23 PPG since being acquired from New York, but he’s been out with a knee injury and he won’t play in this game either. With Randolph, point guard Baron Davis and center Chris Kaman all injured, there’s really not enough scoring to win games.
Still, L.A. covered in Dallas without those three on Tuesday night, losing 107-102 as 12.5 point dogs and they are 11-6 ATS on the road this year, covering their last three.
With a large spread against the Spurs, they could be dangerous once again.
