Mavericks vs Bulls

Time: Saturday 8 ET
Venue: United Center, Chicago
Spread: Opened Mavericks -1 (Now Bulls -1)
Over/Under: 199.5 (-110)

Team records:
Dallas: 42-21 SU, 26-36-1 ATS
Chicago: 31-30 SU, 30-29-2 ATS

Second verse, same as the first for the Bulls, who have 20 games left after tonight’s toughie with the Mavericks in Chicago and find themselves in just about the same spot as they were last season – fighting to stay at the .500 mark, and hoping to qualify for the playoffs against one of the league’s powers.

Chicago had lost three straight, including two in a row at home, is a couple of games into a stretch of 9 straight games against teams .500 or better, and on top of everything is battling injuries to the two players – Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah – that the Bulls have to have in the final 20 games if they want to remain in the chase.

Rose has averaged 26 points a game over the last 4, picking up a greater share of the scoring by default (few teams with scoring point guards get too far in the NBA) despite battling a sore knee and assorted other aches and pains that accumulate when you take the ball to the hoop as often as he does.

The Bulls will rise or fall without Noah, who is suffering from planter fasciitis and is not expected to see any game action until early April. Noah may not be the reincarnation of Dave Cowens, but he is a defensively presence and it’s no secret his absence is one of the reasons six straight opponents have scored at least 100 points against the Bulls.

With 10 straigtht wins, the Mavericks are hardly the team the Bulls would like to face in this situation. The Mavs are the rarest of breeds – a veteran team that has managed to stay healthy and is firing on all cylinders as it heads toward the playoffs.

Betting Trends:

Dallas is 11-3 ATS in its last 14 games when playing on the road against Chicago
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Chicago’s last 6 games at home
Chicago is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Dallas
Dallas is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
Dallas is 19-3 SU in its last 22 games when playing Chicago
Dallas is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games when playing on the road against Chicago
The total has gone OVER in 10 of Chicago’s last 14 games when playing at home against Dallas
Chicago is 11-5 SU in its last 16 games at home

SATURDAY NIGHT BEST NBA BET:

The line is tight only because the Mavs played at home last night. Dallas has played pretty well in the second game of back-to-backs this season (9-7) and has given the Bulls trouble over the years. Caron Butler has averaged over 15 a game since coming over at the trading deadline, and Dallas seems to have too many weapons for the depleted Bulls to match up. The Mavs also have their sights set on the No. 2 Western Conference playoff seed and head into this one essentially tied with Denver. For parlay players, Dallas and the over looks enticing.
