San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview

The Spurs won Game 2 to even this series at a game apiece and the main reason they won with their D, which held the Grizzlies to under 40% shooting. NBA lines have the Grizzlies as 2-point favorites in this game with a total of 192.

San Antonio won Game 2 93-87, but for the 2nd straight game Memphis covered the spread.

Betting on the Grizzlies has been a good call on the season, as they are 54-29-1 ATS and the Spurs at 44-38-2 ATS. The Grizzlies have covered the spread in their last 7 games against the Spurs.

Memphis won both of their home games against the San Antonio this season.

Manu Ginobili came back to play in Game 2 and he was his usual reckless self and while he did not have the best shooting night (5/13) he got to the free throw line and led all San Antonio scorers with 17 points. Overall, the Spurs shot 43.8% from the field and Tim Duncan, Richard Jefferson, and George Hill all had 16 points. NBA Betting

I mentioned before that the Spurs’ defense won this game and specifically their interior defense, which held Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol to only 23 points after this duo combined to score 49 points in Game 1. The Spurs were much more physical in the paint and they will do the same in Game 3.

The Memphis backcourt trio of the backcourt trio of Mike Conley, Tony Allen, and Sam Young combined to score 45 points in Game 2 and each shot pretty well and they will have to do so again in Game 3, especially if San Antonio keeps Randolph and Gasol in check.

The Grizzlies will also need a better game from their bench, specifically Shane Battier and O.J. Mayo, who in Game 2 combined to score only 8 points on 3/18 shooting. These guys will be counted on to drain some 3-pointers to stretch the Spurs’ defense, but in Game 2 this duo only made 1 of their 9 3-pointers.

The Spurs will play solid defense again and make the Grizzlies beat them with their outside shooting. I think this will be another close game, but the Spurs will come out on top and take back home court advantage.

Betting Trends

The Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games, 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games against teams with a winning S.U. record, and have an Over record of 5-0 in their last 5 games as a road underdog.
The Grizzlies are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 home games, 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a home favorite of 0.5-4.5, and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 home games.

Pick: Spurs +2
