The Memphis Grizzlies have been very good on NBA odds lately, but they haven’t faced a team above .500 during their impressive run. Will their luck change against the struggling Orlando Magic?

Orlando (30-17, 20-25-2 ATS) had lost two of its past three games heading into Sunday’s meeting with the Cavaliers. The Magic failed to cover in both losses, dropping to 4-5-1 ATS in their past 10 outings.

The Magic simply aren’t scoring enough to win right now. In those two most recent losses, the team averaged just 93 points. A 99-90 loss in Chicago on Friday was especially frustrating, as only two players scored in double figures.

Dwight Howard led the way with a brilliant performance, scoring 40 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Everything else was pretty ugly. Gilbert Arenas was second in scoring with just 11 points. Starters Jason Richardson, Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu and Brandon Bass made just eight of their 30 combined field goal attempts—a pathetic 26 percent. They totaled just 22 points. Worse yet, the team might be on the verge of panic. “I’m worried about things” was one of many troubling statements from head coach Stan Van Gundy this week. Orlando was expected to contend with Boston and Miami for the conference title, but the Bulls have pulled ahead while Atlanta has climbed into the mix. Now, the Magic face the prospect of going on the road during the first round of the playoffs.

Memphis (24-24, 29-18-1 ATS) is 5-1 in its past six games. The Grizzlies have won two straight, including a 107-93 win over the Wizards on Saturday. Memphis covered in the victory, improving to 5-2 ATS in its last five games.

The Grizzlies haven’t exactly run a gauntlet of tough opponents, however; all but one team they’ve played in the past seven games is below .500 (Memphis lost 103-102 in New Orleans, though it covered as an underdog).

For the next eight games, Memphis will be without O.J. Mayo. Mayo, averaging 12.3 points per game this season, has already missed two straight games because of a suspension (he was wacked for 10 games for using a banned substance).

With Mayo out, just about everyone stepped up against Washington. Zach Randolph dominated with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Five other players scored in double figures. Mike Conley had a double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds), Marc Gasol was all over the court (14 points, eight rebounds, five blocks) and Darrell Arthur came off the bench to score a career-high 22 points.

Orlando may be slipping down the ranks in the Eastern Conference, but it’s still head and shoulders above the Grizzlies. Memphis is in for a wakeup call after facing a bevy of weak opponents. The Magic should come out angry and get everyone involved in the offense early and often. They’ll overwhelm the shorthanded Grizzlies for the win and cover.

MEM are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
ORL are 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Memphis.
