The Boston Celtics are clearly superior to the Phoenix Suns, but the hometown Suns could have a big advantage on Friday—Boston is in the midst of a West Coast road swing. Will it be enough for Phoenix to overcome the odds?

The Suns (20-24, 18-25-1 ATS) are stuck in yet another losing streak. What else is new? Every time this team builds any sort of momentum—like the recent five-game winning streak—it completely melts down. Phoenix has dropped three straight games since its winning streak, including an 0-3 run against the spread.

During the hot streak, Phoenix averaged 115 points over five games. That number has tailed off during the skid, with the Suns managing just 92 points. It’s especially embarrassing since all three defeats have come against sub-.500 teams, including Wednesday’s 114-107 home loss to Charlotte. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

If there is a silver lining it is, as always, Steve Nash. The veteran continues to bust his ass despite a subpar supporting cast; Nash racked up 27 points and 15 assists against the Bobcats, his seventh game with 20 points and 15 assists this season. The rest of the league has combined for three such games.

At some point, though, this club needs to make some stops. Phoenix was brutal down the stretch against Charlotte, and the Bobcats shot a whopping 50.6 percent from the field, including 9-17 from beyond the three-point line. The Suns simply have to be more disruptive on defense.

Boston (34-10, 21-21-2 ATS) had won six of its past seven games heading into Thursday’s tilt with Portland. The Celtics have shaken off a bit of a slump against the spread; Tuesday’s 112-95 win over Cleveland was the second time they’ve covered in three games.

The Celtics continue to play great defense, which is especially impressive with their frontcourt banged up (Jermaine O’Neal has been out nearly the entire season with a sore left knee, though he should return in February. Shaquille O’Neal has missed back-to-back games with a sore leg). They’ve allowed less than 92 points per game over their last seven outings, while holding three opponents to less than 90 points.

Phoenix catches Boston playing on back-to-back nights. Its part of a four-game West Coast swing for the Celtics, and fatigue should at least play a small factor. Don’t expect Phoenix’s losing streak to come to an end, but the Suns should at least put up enough points to cover the spread and pick up a win on NBA odds.
