It would be hard to find two teams who have gone in more opposite directions than the Jazz and the Mavericks over the last few weeks. The Jazz have lost 13 of their last 17 games, while the Mavericks have won 13 of their last 14 games. Utah was actually ahead of Dallas in the Western Conference standings a few weeks ago. Dallas now has the second best record in the West, and Utah is barely hanging onto a playoff spot. Can the Jazz get things turned around to start the second half?

Utah’s legendary coach Jerry Sloan abruptly resigned on February 10, and the reigns were passed on to Tyrone Corbin. The Jazz are 0-3 under Corbin thus far, but that clearly isn’t enough time to judge his performance as coach of this team.

The rumors of Deron Williams clashing with Jerry Sloan have really turned off the Utah Jazz fans, since Sloan was such a beloved figure in the area.

Now the Jazz must move forward with Williams, their franchise player, and coach Corbin leading the way. Utah will be on the road in this game, but their inability to take care of business at home this year has been particularly alarming. The Jazz have typically been one of the best home teams in the league, but this year they are just 17-13 on their home floor.

Utah’s defense is the worst it has been in several years, and the offense has been inconsistent as well. Injuries have hampered this team over the last few weeks.

Al Jefferson has been a bright spot for the team, stepping into his starting role and averaging 17.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Corbin appears to be attempting to get rookie Gordon Hayward more playing time. The Jazz must get their act together, or they won’t even be around for the playoffs this year.

The Dallas Mavericks struggled through much of January, but they really caught fire right before the All-Star break. Dirk Nowitzki was injured in January, and this team isn’t even close to the same with him out of the lineup or not at 100%. Jason Terry is having another solid season for the Mavericks, and Shawn Marion gives this team a lot of flexibility on both sides of the ball. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Peja Stojakovic is being worked into the lineup slowly, and his outside shot could really help stretch the defense. Dallas is one of the deeper teams in the NBA, and they consistently play ten guys or more per game. The Mavericks have been impressive on the defensive end as well, where they are allowing just 95.6 points per game.

This is a team that looked like a real title contender early on in the season, and they are getting back to that level once again in the last few weeks.

The Mavericks hope to get Caron Butler back in time for the playoffs, and with Butler they have another great scoring option. Don’t discount this Mavericks team and their ability to make a deep run in the playoffs this year.

Gambling Trends:

UTA are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 vs. NBA Southwest.
Under is 8-3 in UTA last 11 vs. NBA Southwest.
UTA are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
Over is 8-0 in DAL last 8 vs. Western Conference.
Over is 7-2 in DAL last 9 home games.
DAL are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. NBA Northwest.
Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Dallas.
Home team is 22-6-1 ATS in the last 29 meetings.

The Pick:

I expect Utah to come out of the All-Star break looking to prove a point. I fully expect Dallas to win this game, but it might be closer than most expect. Dallas has not covered the spread well at home over the last couple years.

Utah vs. Dallas Score Prediction: Dallas 102 Utah 97
