NBA Game Day – San Antonio Spurs at Denver Nuggets

The San Antonio Spurs travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets in a game between two key players in the Western Conference. Without a doubt, the Spurs are just as good as they have been for most of the past decade. Their straight-up record of 33 and 14 makes them one of the best in the NBA. Against the spread, they aren’t nearly as good going 22-23-2. Their away record against the spread is 12-9-1.

Their opponent, the Denver Nuggets, have played very well despite arguably their best player, Carmelo Anthony, being sidelined with an injury the past couple of months. ‘Melo is back which means the Nuggets should be even better. The Nuggets are 31 and 16 straight-up. Their at home against the spread record of 15-9-1 makes them a consistent online basketball wager for sportsbook betting fans.

Game-day: 2/3/2009

Here are the sportsbook betting NBA odds for this game:

San Antonio Spurs +6 -110 +220 O 198 ½ -110
Denver Nuggets -6 -110 -260 U 198 ½ -110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game:

The San Antonio Spurs are 5-2-1 against the spread in their last 8 games versus a team from the Western Conference.
The San Antonio Spurs are 7 and 3 against the spread in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Denver.
The Denver Nuggets are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games at home.
The Denver Nuggets are 5 and 1 against the spread in their last 6 games overall.

The biggest question going into this game will be how Tony Parker plays straight-up on Chauncey Billups. Billups is the bigger, stronger man and Parker will be tested on the blocks.

With Carmelo back to help Nene and Kenyon Martin on the front line, the Denver Nuggets suddenly have one of the top teams in the NBA in terms of overall talent.

That front line of ‘Melo, Martin and Nene could be as good as the best in the NBA. It might already be because Chauncey Billups is a top five point-guard.

San Antonio will be playing in a back-to-back in this game. On Monday night they beat Golden State in overtime. Now, they travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets.

I just don’t see how San Antonio keeps this one close. The Spurs will have a tough time playing with the Nuggets on the road as it is since Denver is a terrific home team. But after playing the Warriors in overtime?

I see Denver coming out and setting the tone early. They should dominate in tonight’s game.

Spurs vs. Nuggets Prediction:

My basketball betting money will be on the Denver Nuggets to cover the -6 point spread in your online sportsbook.
