Denver at New Orleans – Two of the Best Point Guards in the Game

The Denver Nuggets travel to New Orleans to take on the Hornets in a key Western Conference match-up between two of the best point-guards in the NBA. After acquiring Chauncey Billups from the Detroit Pistons, the Nuggets have been very, very good. They are 30 and 15 straight-up and are riding a three game winning streak without their best player, Carmelo Anthony. From a sports betting point-of-view, the Nuggets have been even better going 26-18-1 against the BetUS online betting spread. That’s almost a full ten games above .500 which is always something NBA betting fans look for before placing wagers.

New Orleans hasn’t lit the NBA world on fire this season like they did in 2007 and 2008, but they too have started to play very well. Their straight-up record of 27 and 14 puts them into the thick of the Midwest Division race, but their against the spread record of 18-21-2 makes them a tough online wager in most games. Everything begins with their superstar point-guard, Chris Paul.

The BetUS online sportsbook odds makers haven’t released online betting odds yet. I’ve listed my personal online betting lines below.

Denver Nuggets +1 ½ -110 O 199 ½ -110
New Orleans Hornets -1 ½ -110 U 199 ½ -110

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.

The Denver Nuggets are 4 and 0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.
The Denver Nuggets are 1 and 4 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The New Orleans Hornets are 7-21-2 against the spread in their last 30 games following an against the spread win. The Road team is 10 and 4 against the spread in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.

Can the Nuggets overcome their Tuesday night game against the Memphis Grizzlies and take down the Hornets on Wednesday night? It’s always tough to play a back-to-back in the NBA. It’s even tougher when your opponent is as polished as New Orleans.

But the Nuggets have something that the Hornets do not. As good as Chris Paul is, he isn’t Chauncey Billups. Billups is a master defender which means that Paul, the Hornets top scorer, is going to have to find Peja Stojakovic and Julian Wright on the blocks. Why? Because two of the Hornets’ best players, David West and Tyson Chandler are out in this game so the scoring will fall to Stojakovic and Wright.

That means that the Denver Nuggets have one job – – stop Chris Paul. Luckily, they’ve got one of the best defending point-guards in the NBA on him.

No matter what the online betting odds become in this game, I just don’t see how the Nuggets don’t beat the Hornets by at least 5 points.

Nuggets vs. Hornets Free Prediction:

That’s the line I’m setting for myself. If the NBA odds makers offer an online betting line of Denver Nuggets -5 or less, then I’m taking the Nuggets in this game.

They should win this easily.
