New Orleans Hornets at Atlanta Hawks – Home Sweet Home

The New Orleans Hornets travel to Atlanta to take on the Hawks in a game where the Hornets will be looking to extend a winning streak. New Orleans has to be ecstatic that Tyson Chandler failed his physical when they tried to trade him away a few weeks ago.Since Chandler has been back, New Orleans has been very, very good. They have won 7 games in a row to bring their straight-up record to 39 and 22. Their record ATS is 36-33-2, but getting better, and their record against the spread on the road is 11-17-1.

Atlanta is going to make the playoffs, but they have to really improve before beating the Orlando Magic or Cleveland Cavaliers in the east. The Hawks are 35 and 28 straight-up, 33 and 30 against the spread overall and 18 and 17 ATS at home. Losses to Charlotte and New York in 2 out of their last 3 make them a tough bet in this game.

Here is the BetUS NBA line for this game.

New Orleans Hornets -1 ½ -110 O 188 -110
Atlanta Hawks +1 ½ -110 U 188 -110

Here are a few online wagering trends for this game.

The New Orleans Hornets are 2 and 7 ATS in their last 9 games on the road.
The New Orleans Hornets are 5-12-1 against the spread in their last 18 games after an against the spread victory.
The Atlanta Hawks are 6 and 0 ATS in their last 6 games as the underdog at home.
The Atlanta Hawks are 5 and 2 against the spread in their last 7 games overall.

The NBA trends point to Atlanta beating the spread in the sportsbook as a slight underdog. Usually, I’d go with the hot team in this situation which would be New Orleans, but I like the way the Hawks are coming up to this game.

Atlanta just beat Detroit and covered the spread in that game this past Saturday. They got to rest on Sunday and now take on a Hornets team that has been almost too hot.

New Orleans is going to come back to earth. They’ve won 7 games in a row, but that’s almost a bad sign in this game. I don’t expect the Hornets to play nearly as well against Atlanta on the road as they did at home versus the Oklahoma City Thunder this past Saturday.

NBA Prediction:

Atlanta is a much tougher team than Oklahoma City. I’m going with the Hawks as the +1 ½ points underdog.
