The Orlando Magic seemed to be hitting their stride a couple weeks ago, but they have since lost five of their last eight games. It seems the Magic are a better team than they were before the major trades in December, but they can’t seem to beat the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia 76ers are still just under .500, but this is a team that has definitely outperformed expectations. Doug Collins has this team improving on a nightly basis right now. The Magic beat the Sixers by one point in overtime last month, and this should be another close game.

The Magic certainly have more offensive firepower than they had earlier this year, but they are struggling with consistency. The injury to Brandon Bass has really hurt Orlando’s depth in the frontcourt. Ryan Anderson is a solid scorer, but he doesn’t give them the same rebounding advantage or the same defensive presence. Hedo Turkoglu and Jason Richardson have done pretty well in Orlando, but Gilbert Arenas is still trying to find his old form. Arenas is shooting just 35.5% from the floor. Dwight Howard continues to rack up big numbers this year, but Magic fans have to be a bit concerned about his regression at the free-throw line of late.  The Magic can be dominant at times on the glass, but they need to become a little more efficient on the offensive end. They rank seventh in the NBA in field goal percentage defense, and they are allowing opponents to score just 94.7 points per game. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Philadelphia is clearly a team that is on the rise right now. Elton Brand has scored 28 and 33 points in their last two games, and he is playing his best in at least a couple of years. Jrue Holiday continues to progress at the guard position, and Jodie Meeks has proven capable of putting up points in bunches. Rookie Evan Turner is still developing, but he has contributed nicely of late. This is a team that has plenty of depth in both the backcourt and the frontcourt. The single biggest area where they have improved this year is on the defensive end of the court. The Sixers play much better team defense than they did this time last year. They still struggle at times on the glass because they tend to be undersized against the top teams in the league. In order for this team to take the next step up and be ready for the playoffs, they’ll need to improve on the offensive end. Philadelphia still has plenty of room for improvement, but they are exceeding expectations.

Gambling Trends:

ORL are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 Wed. games.
PHI are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Over is 16-7 in PHI last 23 vs. NBA Southeast.
PHI are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 home games.
ORL are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings.

The Pick:

Both teams are on the second end of a back-to-back in this one. Philadelphia played in Atlanta on Tuesday night, while Orlando hosted the Clippers. The trends are conflicting in this matchup. The Magic are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 in Philly, but the Sixers are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 home games. Orlando is just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The under is 5-1 in Philadelphia’s last 6 home games, and I think that is the way to play this game. Take the under here. I expect a close game from start to finish.

Orlando vs. Philadelphia Score Prediction: Orlando 95 Philadelphia 94
