The single best game in the NBA season thus far was probably the amazing comeback by the Utah Jazz in Miami earlier this year. The Jazz trailed by more than 20 points in the first half, but came all the way back and beat the Heat in overtime. The loss to Utah was the beginning of a spiral downward for Miami, but they are now playing their best basketball of the season and they have a chance for revenge in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night.
Miami had the highest expectations of any team in the NBA coming into the season, and they haven’t met those expectations yet, but they are looking much better in their last few games. Miami is without Udonis Haslem now, which means they are even weaker on the boards. Wade and James have picked up their game a ton in the last week. LeBron used his Cleveland return to get things on track, and Wade has been shooting much better as well. The Heat have won five games in a row, and they have won each game by at least 11 points.
The Utah Jazz are having a successful season thus far. They currently sit atop the Northwest Division, which is probably the best division in the NBA right now. The Jazz have actually played better on the road than at home this year, so they will need to get back to playing their best basketball at home. Deron Williams is still the leader of this team, but there are some new weapons in Utah that are helping immensely. Raja Bell has really helped the defensive attitude of this team. Al Jefferson is a solid big man who is doing a nice job filling Boozer’s spot.
Going back and looking at the first meeting between these two, we see that the Jazz racked up 30 assists on 45 field goals. The Heat attempted 46 free throws and had only 11 turnovers. Paul Millsap had a career game in Miami that night, breaking out for a huge 46 point explosion. The reason the Jazz are 16-6 right now is the fact that they lead the NBA in field goal percentage defense. The Heat are second in the NBA in field goal percentage defense. These two teams matchup quite evenly, despite the fact that they have very different personnel.
