ATS Matchup Insight | CP Insider Gambling Preview

It was an interesting win when you look at the numbers as New York was not very good from the three point arc – just 23% – yet still managed to shoot better than 50% from the field for the game, while missing only twice from the charity stripe.

New York

Fortunately the 22 turnovers they offered up were balanced by the 23 they caused by the Bucks. It was a sloppy game to say the least.

Carmelo Anthony got off to a good start to the season with a double-double leading the Knicks in scoring and rebounding in the opener. The Knicks had 4 players in double figures for the game but the bench didn’t contribute much as Andrea Bargnani led all subs with just 6 points.

They are going to need him and Metta World Peace to be more productive if this team is going to be a big winner this season.

New York won their opener but failed to cover, barely, against Milwaukee.  Given what we saw from the Bulls in their opener against Miami I was surprised to see the Knicks installed as such big underdogs in this one.

It is still very early on to understand how these teams are really going to be this season but odds are these are pretty evenly ranked teams.

Chicago

Early in the Bulls game against Miami it looked like they were going to challenge the Champs but then they got outscored by 19 in the second quarter and it wasn’t really a game after that. The only positive thing from their opener was that they didn’t give up on the contest.

They didn’t come close to covering but at least they fought through the 4th quarter to make it respectable.

Game 1 of Derrick Rose’s return was far from rosy.  He shot 4 for 15 from the field, including 1 for 6 from three and led all players with 5 turnovers.  Matters would have been much worse for the Bulls had Carlos Boozer not chipped in 31 points and a banged up Joakim Noah chipped in 11 boards in just 20 minutes of action.

Needless to say the Bulls need Rose to be better if they want to succeed this season.

As expressed above I was surprised that the Bulls are such heavy favourites in this one.  A day off and a return home are nice but I am not sure it is enough to justify this number.  The Bulls will have the advantage of the Knicks having played last night but this early in the season that won’t be as much of a factor.

I think the Knicks plus the points are the way to go.
