ATS Matchup Insight | CP Insider Gambling Preview

The Miami Heat have turned it on of late. After starting the year 4-3 the Heat have all of a sudden won 10 games in a row and are 14-3 for the season. ATS in that time span the Heat are 7-3, but in games in which they are double digit favorites, they are 2-2. Which includes their last game in which they couldn’t cover the 11.5 versus the Charlotte Bobcats. And for the season, the Heat are 2-5 in games in which they are favored by double digits.

The Detroit Pistons are coming off a good win versus the Philadelphia 76ers to snap a two game losing streak. The big reason for that is big man Andre Drummond. Drummond had is having a very good season averaging 13 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, the Pistons have a decent set of players. Rodney Stuckey leads the team in points with 16.9 points a game, and Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith have done a little of everything. Jennings has 15.9 points a game, and 8.4 assists. While Smith is averaging 14.1 points a game, and grabbing 7 rebounds a game.

In this game, the Detroit Pistons may be able to compete with the Heat due to their success on the rebound. Of late, the Pistons have out rebounded their opposition. Since November 20th, the Pistons have the best rebound differential in the Eastern Conference at 6.1. The Miami Heat, meanwhile, are last in rebounds and have a minus 2.3 margin this season.

In this game, look for big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe to pull down some rebounds. If they do, the Pistons have a puncher’s chance at winning, but have a very good chance at covering the spread.

Danny’s FREE NBA Pick:

The Heat are the better team, but the thing about it is, will the Heat be up for it? That’s the thing about the NBA early in the season. When you have an elite team versus a mediocre team it all depends on whether or not the elite team (in this case the Miami Heat) gets up for it and plays their hardest – or at the very least – hard enough to comfortably beat a team they should (in this case the Detroit Pistons).

That’s always the risk and consider this: The Miami Heat are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games versus a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400. Against teams like the Pistons, the Heat just don’t get up for these games.

All in all, in this match up, I believe the Heat don’t give it their best effort and the Pistons do. The Pistons are big up front and they rebound pretty well; an area the Heat struggle in. So, all in all, I think -10.5 is too much in this spot. I like the Detroit Pistons to cover that. The Heat win straight up, but the Pistons cover.
