08/09 NBA Title Futures: Lines & Prediction

Here are the updated 2008/09 NBA championship odds and future lines, plus prediction for the sixteen teams, eight from each conference dreaming of bringing home the NBA Title…

Odds to Win the 2009 NBA Championship

The long, grueling regular season is over and the NBA playoffs are ready to tip off this Saturday.

Sixteen teams, eight from each conference are all dreaming of bringing home the Title, but only one team will make that dream a reality.

Here is a brief preview of each team along with their odds of winning the 2009 NBA Championship.

Atlanta Hawks +7500: The Hawks landed the fourth seed in the East and face Miami in round one. There is enough talent on this team to hang in there with anyone, but their poor record on the road will come back to haunt them.

Boston Celtics +400: Losing Kevin Garnett for the playoffs is a huge blow to the Celtics chance of repeating as champions. There are enough quality players left to pick up the slack, but not enough to fill the void that KG’s absence creates.

Chicago Bulls +15000: It is great to see the Bulls back in the playoffs, but they are still a few years away from competing for a title. They will give Boston a run for their money in the first round, but do not have the experience to take them out.

Cleveland Cavaliers +200: Is this the year that King James has his coronation? Everything is pointing toward that moment as Cleveland is the class of the East and should get a chance to prove they are the leagues’ best as well.

Dallas Mavericks +8000: This is still an exciting team that can run up and down the floor with anyone and should be able to push the Spurs to the brink in round one. I just do not think their defense is good enough for them to make a run any deeper.

Denver Nuggets +2000: With the addition of Chauncey Billups this team became a contender in the West grabbing the second seed.  They will need to find a way to beat the Lakers, as in their last twelve meetings they are just 1-11 against LA.

Detroit Pistons +7000: Usually a major factor in the East, the Pistons barely made the playoffs this year coming in as the eighth seed. If they somehow find away to get past Cleveland in the first round, their experience could land them in the finals.

Houston Rockets +2500: Without Tracy McGrady this is not your typical Rockets team that would have a chance against anyone. They are still a very good team, just not good enough to win it all.

Los Angeles Lakers +160: Most people expect the Lakers to breeze through the Western conference and win another title in six or seven, but that is why they play the games. I do believe it is their title to lose, but it will not be as easy as everyone believes.

Miami Heat: +6500: Dwayne Wade has carried this team on his shoulders all season and will have to do more of the same for them to have any chance in the playoffs. That is just too tall of a task for any player no matter how great they are.

New Orleans Hornets +3500: The Hornets are considered by many as the team to watch in these playoffs. They have the ability, but lack the experience to seriously contend this year.

Orlando Magic +750: Dwight Howard is a monster big man and with a solid supporting cast they can definitely make some noise in these playoffs. Unfortunately, a weak bench keeps them from winning it all.

Philadelphia 76ers +15000: Much like last season, they are a good solid team, but do not have the talent to compete against the elite teams in the league.

Portland Trail Blazers +2500: This is a very good team that will not go down without a fight and may even pull off an upset or two. They are just a bit too young to make it to the finals this season.

San Antonio Spurs +2000: The window of opportunity is slipping away for this team as they are starting to show their age. They have enough in the tank to win one or two series, but that’s about it.

Utah Jazz +5000: This is a great team that should have won a few more games to get a better seed than eighth. With a miracle upset of the Lakers this team could go on a roll, just don’t bet on it.

There should be a lot of great basketball over the next few weeks, but when it is all said and done it will boil down to the Cavaliers from the East and the Lakers from the West.

NBA Championship Prediction:

My money is on King James and the Cavs over LA in seven for the Title.
