Friday, November 14
BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Odds: LAKERS -9.5, Total 195

Here are some of the NBA pro basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* DET has won four of its last five road games SU
* LA has covered six of its last seven games
* LA has covered 11 of its last 16 home games
* LA has won 19 of its last 20 home games SU

Also…

* LA has covered four of the last six meetings
* DET has covered 12 of the last 16 meetings
* DET has won nine of the last 11 meetings
* Four of the last five meetings have gone UNDER the total
* DET has covered five of the last seven meetings as the road team
* Nine of the last 12 meetings in L.A. have gone UNDER the total

The Lakers have some sterling statistics. Phil Jackson’s team has only shot 44.6%, but this is the highest scoring team in the NBA, averaging 104.7 points per contest. They are, at the same time, holding opponents to 40% shooting, allowing only 86.7 ppg. And that figure is even lower in home games (82 ppg). They steal the ball 10.3 times a game. That offers a challenge to the Pistons, who have dealt Chauncey Billups in exchange for Allen Iverson.

Detroit has covered four of its five road games. And they have, in recent history, gotten themselves up for this matchup, winning nine of the last 11 times they’ve met, although it must be acknowledged that much of that was before the recent Laker renaissance.

The Pistons did an admirable thing last night, coming back from being down by double digits to beat Golden State 107-102. In that game, the Pistons actually had some success in going to a small lineup. For a time, Tayshaun Prince was actually being used at power forward. That’s not going to cut it against the Lakers.

So what about the addition of Iverson? Well, he had 13 points in the third quarter last night, and is registering 18.3 points in his four games in a Detroit uniform. His assist-turnover ratio has held steady at 2-to-1, which is good because he is being counted on as the point guard in a veteran lineup. Coach Michael Curry is pretty unhappy with the team’s defense, as Golden State ran the pick and roll on them with a grat deal of success before collapsing. Our feeling is that Detroit may have extended itself a bit last night. Coming in the back end of a back-to-back, we’ll buck the Pistons and lay the points with the Lakers, the 9.5-point favorite in the BetUS NBA pro basketball sports betting odds.
