NBA Basketball Sports Betting – Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Bobcats

Breaking Source: Allen Iverson to be traded to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Antonio McDyess and Chauncey Billups.

The Detroit Pistons (2-0 SU, 0-2 ATS) are unblemished thus far, but they haven’t covered a game yet. We’ll see if they can do that on Monday when they take on the Charlotte Bobcats (1-1 SU & ATS) in an NBA contest that tips off at 7 PM ET from the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte.

BetUS NBA Basketball Sports Betting Odds: DETROIT -6, Total 184

Here are some of the NBA pro basketball sports betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* DET has won 11 of its last 16 games SU
* DET has covered three of its last nine games
* DET has covered five of its last seven road games
* CHAR is 6-11-1 ATS in its last 18 games
* CHAR has won seven of its last ten home games SU
* CHAR has played four of its last six home games OVER the total

Also…

* DET has won eight of the last ten meetings SU
* Four of the last five meetings have gone OVER the total
* DET has made more three-pointers in four of the last five meetings

The Pistons shot a very strong 53% from the field in Saturday’s 117-109 win over the Washington Wizards. The game was a little more fast-paced than Detroit usually intends its games to be, but the team was fresh after a couple of days off. Right now the Pistons have scored more per game than any team in the NBA (108.5), which is somewhat significant, even though the season is obviously very young.

The problem is that opponents have shot 51% against Detroit, which raises concerns about whether this club gives up a little on the defensive end, considering the age of the starters and the extensive use of reserves. New coach Michael Curry has been spreading out the minutes, giving people like Walter Herrmann (16 points vs. Washington) some extra time. The defense will be tested to an extent against Charlotte, which has some capable scorers. Gerald Wallace and Jason Richardson combined for 57 points against Miami the other night, and the ‘Cats shot almost 54% from the field.

Sure, it was a downer for coach Larry Brown that power forward Sean May has not been in shape to contribute, but with Shannon Brown (backup guard) turning in a nice defensive effort as he did in helping to hold Dwyane Wade to 5-of-15 from the floor, there’s the potential of a decent eight-man rotation with fellow guard D.J,. Augustin and swingman Adam Morrison. More has to come from these guys on a nightly basis, however. And muscle underneath has to come from someone in addition to Emeka Okafor.

Because Detroit is not oversized, however, this may work for Charlotte. And Larry Brown wouldn’t want to win this game THAT bad, would he? He may not get it done, but the Bobcats can play well enough to keep this one within the number. Take Charlotte plus the points in the BetUS NBA basketball odds.
