The Spurs have defied the odds and jumped to the top of the Western Conference standings.

Golden State has dealt with a multitude of injuries, but new coach Mark Jackson is building a different type of team in Oakland.

San Antonio played Wednesday night, but Gregg Poppovich decided to rest most of the starters in that one. It is unknown what he will do with the key players in this game, but it’s hard to imagine many of the top players logging many minutes in this contest.

Still, the Spurs don’t want to come out and completely lose their rhythm in the regular season finale. The strength of this team is their depth. Even when many of the key players have rested this year, the Spurs have won crucial games. Danny Green, Tiago Splitter, and DeJuan Blair have all improved a great deal this year.

San Antonio leads the NBA in field goal percentage offense. They shoot 47.9% as a team. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Golden State made a major deal at the trade deadline. The Warriors sent Monta Ellis to Milwaukee in return for Andrew Bogut. Bogut has been unable to play this year, but the team hopes he will be an anchor for the team in future years. Stephen Curry has missed the last 21 games with an ankle injury.

Basically, Golden State has been playing short-handed for quite some time. The positive part is some young guys have gotten a valuable learning experience. Klay Thompson looks like a player who could be a star in the future. Thompson is shooting 42% from beyond the arc in his rookie season.

The Warriors struggle badly on the boards, and they’ll need to hold their own on the glass if they expect to have a chance in this one.

San Antonio isn’t likely to be playing many stars here, but even their backups are significantly better than Golden State’s starters right now. Look for the Spurs to finish the regular season with a solid win.

Prediction: San Antonio 117 Golden State 106
