Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Preview

There is a good chance they will face the Celtics, who are coming off a loss, in the first round of the playoffs. The Magic are really banged up, as Hedo Turkoglu is also out with an injury and Boston is also not completely healthy, as sharpshooter Ray Allen is doubtful for tonight’s game and Rajon Rondo is a question mark after getting injured in the last game.

In their last games the Magic beat the Philadelphia 76ers 113-100 while the Celtics lost to the New York Knicks 118-110.

This season the Magic are 32-29 ATS with an O/U record of 30-29-2 and the Celtics are 31-29-2 ATS with an O/U record of 26-33-3.

The Celtics can wrap up the Atlantic Division title tonight if they win or the Knicks lose, but they will have to play better D than they did in the New York game when they allowed the Knicks to shoot 56.8% from the floor and 59.3% from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Magic are one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the league with the likes of Jason Richardson, J.J. Reddick, Jameer Nelson, and Ryan Anderson. 3-point shooting is key for them, even more so now with Superman out, and they are 23-3 this season when they shoot at least 40% from beyond the arc.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

However, Orlando is only shooting a 3-pt FG% of 21.1% in their last 3 games against Boston.

The Celtics have won both of their games against the Magic this season.

With Rondo and Allen unlikely to play tonight Paul Pierce, who went for 43 points in the loss to the Knicks, will have to step up. He is averaging over 21 ppg and 8.5 assists per game in both games facing the Magic this season.

Both teams rank in the top 5 in the league on defense even though both teams gave up at least 100 points in their last game.

In some betting trends for this Eastern Conference match up the Magic are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 road games, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 13-4 in their last 17 vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.

The Celtics are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 home games, 5-2-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Both teams are really hurting and even though the Magic have won 2 straight I think Boston will step up at home, where they are 21-9 this season, and win and cover tonight.
