Sacramento Kings (3-4)

Like the Suns, the Sacramento Kings have played imperfect yet often exciting basketball this season. They Averaged 11.8 turnovers during their first five games but have really struggled to protect the ball recently, coughing it up 40 times over their last two games.

The Kings have been above average offensively this year, ranking 13th in the league with 102.1 points per game. Reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Tyreke Evans averages 19.6 points per game to lead the team; he only had five points before fouling out in Sacramento’s last game, a loss to Minnesota. He came into that contest averaging 22.6 points.

Defensively, the Kings still leave much to be desired. They allow 106.3 points per game, good for 27th in the league, and opponents shoot better than 40 per cent on them from three-point range.

Phoenix Suns (3-4)

We know what we get with the Phoenix Suns every year. In a sense, they’re just a better version of Sacramento at the moment.

They score a ton, ranking third in the NBA with 108.3 points per game. But they rank 28th in points allowed at an ugly 109.6 points per game and allow the highest opposing field-goal percentage in the entire league.

Steve Nash is a bona fide Kings killer, however. During Phoenix’s current five-game winning streak over Sacramento, Nash averages 25 points and just fewer than 11 assists per game.

The pick:

We should see a lot of scoring tonight, with both teams probably clearing the century mark. But the Suns are a bit more polished, they have Sacramento’s number in their recent series history and they’re playing at home. The Suns are sixth in the league in three-point shooting at 39.1 per cent. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nash, Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu light the Kings up from long range tonight.

Elsewhere in the NBA tonight:

It’s a pretty busy Friday night in the Association. The Jazz look for their fourth road win in six games when they visit the Atlanta Hawks as 3.5-point dogs. The hapless Raptors try to overcome a 14-point spread when they’re thrown to the wolves in Orlando.

The game of the night is arguably Portland/Oklahoma City. League scoring leader Kevin Durant and the Thunder are favored by 2.5 points at home.
