New Orleans Hornets vs. Orlando Magic Preview

Tonight in a non-conference match up the Orlando Magic (34-20) host the banged up New Orleans Hornets (32-22). NBA lines have the Magic as 9-point favorites in this game with a total of 189.5.

Both teams played on Wednesday night, but with different results with the Magic beating the Philadelphia 76ers 99-95 and the Hornets losing to the New Jersey Nets 103-101.

The Hornets have lost 4 games in a row and 6 of their last 7 and they will likely be without Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor tonight, as both are injured. The loss of Okafor has really hurt the Hornets’ interior defense and that is really not good tonight facing Dwight Howard (22.5 ppg 13.8 rpg). NBA Betting

Betting on these teams this season has not made anybody rich with the Hornets at 26-27-1 ATS and the Magic at 24-29-1 ATS. The home team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 games between these 2 teams.

New Orleans head coach Monty Williams summed up the Hornets problem stating, “Bottom line is we need to get more production from a lot of people and right now we are not. We’re not getting a lot out of our bench.” They will need bench help tonight to have any chance to pull off the upset.

New Orleans has allowed the 3rd fewest points in the league at 92.5 ppg, but has given up 100 or more in 7 of their last 8 games. Chris Paul (16.5 ppg) must play well tonight and the backup big men have to keep Howard from having a big scoring and rebounding game. The Hornets also have to play good D on Jason Richardson (16.5 ppg) and Jameer Nelson (12.5 ppg) and not allow them to get open looks from deep.

The Hornets are reeling and with their main defensive stopper out they will continue to struggle. The Magic will easily win this game and cover the 9-point spread.

Betting Trends

New Orleans is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 0-7 ATS in their last 4 games overall and Orlando is 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.

Pick: Magic -9
