New Orleans Hornets vs. L.A. Lakers Preview

The Lakers (57-25) have to be happy they are playing the Hornets (46-36) in this series, as they won all 4 games against them this season. The Lakers come into this game winning 2 straight while the Hornets lost their last 3 games of the season.

In their season finales the Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 116-108 in OT and the Hornets were crushed losing to the Dallas Mavericks 121-89.

This season neither team has been a good one to wager on with the Lakers at 39-42-1 ATS and the Hornets at 39-41-2 ATS.

The Lakers got some good news recently, as it was revealed that C Andrew Bynum (11.3 ppg 9.4 rpg) only has a bone bruise and will not miss any games. That is not good news for the Hornets, as they only rank 23rd in the league in rebounds per game while the Lakers rank 3rd. For them to have any chance to win this game they will have to keep Bynum, Pau Gasol (10.2 rpg), and Lamar Odom (8.7 rpg) from dominating the glass. NBA Betting

The Hornets have a good defense ranking 4th in the league in opponents’ points per game, but in their last 3 games they gave up an average of 107.33 ppg. They MUST play better D in this game and on top of their poor defense their offense is really struggling averaging 85.33 ppg in their 3-game losing streak.

Chris Paul (16 ppg) has to score and he will need some help from Carl Landry (11.9 ppg), Trevor Ariza (11.1 ppg), Emeka Okafor (10.4 ppg), and Marco Belinelli (10.4 ppg). Landry may be the key and after David West, the Hornets leading scorer, went out with an injury he was scoring well, but he has struggled in his last few games.

Kobe Bryant (25.2 ppg) will get his points, but the key for the Hornets is stopping the other Lakers from scoring big. When the Lakers have a well-balanced offensive attack they are tough to beat.

The Hornets are not playing well on both sides of the court and they are totally overmatched in the paint, which is why they will get killed in this game. The Lakers will easily win Game 1 of this series and cover the spread.

Betting Trends

The Lakers are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games. New Orleans is also 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games, but they have not covered the spread in their last 3 games.

Pick: Lakers
