New Orleans At Memphis Free Pick & Preview

The Grizzlies are playing some of their best basketball of the season and will aim to take advantage the Pelicans who are flying straight into a storm of nine straight losses, when the two meet in Memphis on Monday night. [ad-4468020]

New Orleans (15-24) arrive at the FedEx Forum trying to halt an eight-game losing streak, following a 97-87 loss to Golden State on Saturday. It was the fourth double-digit defeat during its skid.

Pelicans power forward Anthony Davis continues to emerge as their star, and had 31 points and matched a season best with 17 rebounds in the loss to the Warriors. Davis has strung together seven consecutive 20-point outings, including five double-doubles during his upswing, but it hasn’t seemed to equate to wins.

That’s because outside of Davis’11-of-17 shooting performance last weekend, the rest of the new Orleans players went for a combined 21-of-66. Not good as the Pelicans face must now face the Grizzlies who have won a season-high five consecutive games to move above .500 after a close 91-90 brush with Sacramento their last time out.

Point guard Mike Conley once again fueled the Memphis (20-19) offense, and is averaging 22.2 points and 7.6 assists during the team’s winning streak, including 25 points in Friday’s win over the Kings.

The Grizzlies blocked 13 shots against the Kings, and with the return of center Marc Gasol, its going to make thing extra tough on New Orleans, who is also riding a 6-14 road mark.

Matt’s Prediction:

While the Grizzlies lost twice to the Pelicans earlier this season, they will get the benefit this year from recently acquired guard Courtney Lee, who is averaging 16.3 points over the past four games.

And even though New Orleans has won the last three meetings with Memphis, including a 99-84 win in Memphis on Nov. 6, Memphis looks like its turning a corner, and had a solid outing against the Kings.

I expect the Grizzles to garb this one at home.

Grizzlies 92, Pelicans 84
