New Jersey Nets vs. San Antonio Spurs Preview

In a non-conference match up in the Lone Star State on Friday night the San Antonio Spurs (47-10) host the new-look New Jersey Nets (17-40).

In their last games the Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 109-105 on Wednesday night and the Nets lost to the Boston Celtics 94-80 last Wednesday. This is the first game for the Nets since the All Star break.

The Spurs have been one of the best betting teams in the league this season at 34-21-2 ATS while the same cannot be said about the Nets at 26-31 ATS. New Jersey is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games in San Antonio.

After failing to land Carmelo Anthony the Nets did not stand pat, as they made a big deal trading Derrick Favors, Devin Harris, two first-round draft picks and cash considerations to Utah for All-Star point guard Deron Williams. Sure Williams is one of the best PG’s in the league, but giving up 2 first round draft picks, last year’s first round draft pick in Favors, and Harris (15 ppg). Seems like a bit much. NBA Betting

The Spurs did not have to make any deals, as they have the best record in the NBA and they have only lost 2 home games all season.

The Nets did not play well before the All Star break losing 3 straight and 7 of their last 10 games.

Can Williams (21.3 ppg) gel with Brook Lopez (19.4 ppg) this quickly to put up any fight against the Spurs? Not likely. The Spurs rank 6th in scoring and 8th in rebounds per game and they have a solid defense. They have a great inside-outside game with C Tim Duncan (13.5 ppg), SG Manu Ginobili (17.8 ppg), and Tony Parker (17.5 ppg).

The Nets only rank 25th in the league in scoring and while their defense is decent, decent will not cut it against the Spurs. San Antonio will blow out the Nets in this game, which is why they will not only win, but cover the spread as well.

Betting Trends

New Jersey is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 road games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and San Antonio is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning percentage below 40%.

Pick: Spurs
