Two Western Conference rivals will collide on NBA odds Monday when Dirk Nowitzki’s Dallas Mavericks visit the Oklahoma City Thunder. Dallas is unquestionably one of the best teams in the NBA this season; can Kevin Durant and the Thunder prove they belong in the same category?

The Mavericks (23-5, 16-10-2 ATS) have won four straight games, while covering their past three. Easily one of the hottest teams in the NBA, Dallas was last seen topping the Magic 105-99 in Orlando.

Oklahoma City (21-10, 16-15 ATS) is coming off 114-106 victory over the Nuggets. The Thunder have sea-sawed lately, going 2-2 in their last four games. They’ve gone 2-2 ATS in the same span after covering against Denver.

Oklahoma City and Dallas have shared a fairly tight series straight up over the past few seasons, with the Mavericks taking a 5-3 edge. When it comes to the spread, though, the Thunder are absolutely dominant, going 6-2 against the Mavs. Last year, the clubs split their four meetings, but OKC won three out of four against the spread. They’ve already met once during the 2010-11 season, with Dallas winning 111-103 in Oklahoma City. The Mavericks covered as four-point favorites.

The Thunder led for much of the game, but a blitz midway through the fourth quarter by Dirk Nowitzki turned the game around. The star forward buried a three-pointer late in the game, then followed up with a four-point play to spark a 10-point run in 57 seconds by Dallas. The Mavericks outscored OKC 36-22 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Nowitzki led all scorers with 34 points while adding four rebounds and four assists. Kevin Durant finished with 32 points and 11 rebounds, but his impact in the deciding quarter was minimal. Tyson Chandler, on the other hand, was a major factor; the center racked up 17 points and 18 rebounds.

If the Thunder are going to get a better result this time around, they have to do a better job on the glass; they were outrebounded 49-36 in their last meeting with Dallas.

Dallas has been impressive this season, but OKC will be desperate for revenge after losing on home court earlier this season. Unfortunately, the Mavericks are amazing on the road—9-2 ATS, to be precise. The Thunder, on the other hand, haven’t defended their home turf so well; Oklahoma City is 7-8 ATS at the Ford Center. Nowitzki and company are simply playing too well right now; stick with the hot hand.
