So what’s the issue in Milwaukee?

The Bucks had been in the hunt for a lower playoff seed before they dropped 7 of 8 against mediocre competition. The disappointing Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak Monday against the Clippers.

A win over the Clippers has them feeling good about themselves heading into tonight’s game at home against Denver, but everyone beats the Clips when LA is on the road, and not very many NBA watchers are thinking that the Bucks are primed to go on the type of run they did last year, when they obliterated everything in sight after the All-Star break, stole a playoff spot and scared the bejesus out of Atlanta in the first round even without injured center Andrew Bogut.

The Bogut injury and the offseason took the bloom off Milwaukee’s rose, and the Bucks this season seem to have their ticket stamped for yet another visit to the Lottery, where they have a permanent reservation.

Finger-pointers have plenty of options.

Second-year man Brandon Jennings caught everyone by surprise last season, but a foot injury kept him off the court for more than a month. His numbers are down slightly and he’s shooting under 40 percent from the floor. John Salmons, who gave the Bucks so much energy last season after coming over from Chicago for the stretch run, has seen his scoring average drop from 20 to about 13. Newcomer Corey Maggette averaged 20 with Golden State and is at 13 for the Bucks, though everyone’s average drops after leaving the Warriors. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The big concern is Bogut, who is obviously not at 100 percent after knee surgery and was extremely critical of his team’s effort in a recent loss to Detroit. Bogut’s numbers have also fallen.

The Bucks are in a stretch in which they play 10 of 12 games at home, and everyone from ownership to the towel boys know that it’s now or never for a team has fallen off the radar screen as quickly as it emerged onto it at this time last season.

Denver won the first meeting 105-94 back on Dec. 1. Nene scored 24 points and J.R. Smith added 20 and 10 boards as the Nuggets weathered Anthony’s third-quarter ejection for arguing a missed goaltending call. Salmons scored 21 points and rookie Larry Sanders blocked eight shots. Milwaukee has won the last three in Milwaukee.

Denver has dropped four of five.

NBA Trends:

Over is 8-1 in DEN last 9 road games.
DEN are 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 Wed. games.
Over is 35-17 in DEN last 52 vs. NBA Central.
Under is 7-1 in MIL last 8 overall.
Over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings.

BEST BET: No number on this game as of this morning as the Carmelo Anthony trade talks put sugar in the wagering gas tank. With the Nuggets (three straight losses) struggling and the talks casting a pall over every Denver possession, this appears to be a great time for Milwaukee to grab one against a (still) quality opponent.

Might be advantageous to take a hard look at the Bucks on the money line tonight.
