What is there to say about the Detroit Pistons, who are headed for their second straight season under 30 wins? The Pistons are on a fast track to Nowhere, with a roster full of players that have basically run their course and a fan base that is getting more and more depressed with every loss.
The Pistons (20-35) are two games into a five-game homestand in which they are already 0-2, and playing out the string in a depressing season that is full of lows and really has had few highs. The season started with five straight losses and the Pistons have tacked on a couple of four-game losing streaks.
Meanwhile, the post-season highlight film, such as it is, will likely center on a three-day stretch in late January when Detroit somehow managed to catch Phoenix and Orlando sleeping.
It’s all about the past for the Pistons, who are hamstrung after spending big for Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva and coming up snake-eyes on both. They have gotten just about everything they could get out of Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady can’t do it anymore, and they still are trying to figure out how to use Rodney Stuckey. It’s a bad mix for a team that appears light years away from contending.
